What about Banner Ads Good Idea or Not Worth It?

I'm trying to monetize my online activity and i was wondering if using a banner ad pointing to my affiliate program i am promoting is good idea or a waste of money???Should i just create a squeeze page and get opt ins? Then upsell?
I'm just overwhelmed like i sit here reading the forum and people are making money and i'm not pulling in a dime wondering what i should do to at least get something going?

Are redirects better idea on 7search or MSN?

    ^^This. Next in line would be product reviews. What's the point of placing banners on a site you control, where you can do anything you want. There are much better options IMO.

      persoanlly speaking banners work well, very well, but .....

      get your squeeze page and start collecting optins, build your list, instead of just sitting and reading act on something, get a squeeze page put together in your niche. it's easy to get overwhelmed but just get 1 thing done and up and running

    I've been running an experimental banner on a website to try and get some opt-ins fo rmy list. I paid like $15 bucks for it for the month and so far i've got 40 clicks and a few optins out of it too. Was worth the $15 bucks for sure.

    If it's a market which you can sell or recommend
    multiple products to, you should collect the optin.

    As a general rule, you should get a subscriber for
    every dollar you spend. Whether they buy or not
    is a different issue.
