Normally I like to dig a little deeper and analyze the backlinks of the site in 1st position. You also don't have the domain age displayed.

Having said all that, from what I can see on the screen, both keywords (particularly the first one) would be easy enough to rank for with good on page SEO and a few high quality backlinks.

I don't know what all this means as I don't use MS or any paid keyword tool -- no need with the free Google keyword tool, but I can tell you this. A niche and a keyword are two different things. A niche is a group of people looking for a solution to a problem and who are willing to pay for it. Weight loss is an example of a niche. All profitable niches will have competition.

A keyword is something different. An example of a keyword in the weight loss niche is "weight watchers diet book" is an example of a keyword. According to the free Google keyword tool, it gets 91 global monthly searches a month. This keyword is also competitive - with more than 300 thousand optimized pages. However, the keyword "weight watchers diet book review" has no competition. If you were to write an article using the second keyword, you would pull in traffic from both.

My point is that niches are either profitable or not. The actual keywords are what's competitive since those are what we go after go get ranked. You can work in a highly-profitable niche and still find tons of low-competition keywords that still bring in traffic (the goal). The example above is just something I came up with after doing a quick search. Generally speaking, I wouldn't go for something with such a low search volume since keyword tools aren't totally accurate. It's just to give you an idea.

    Good luck,
    Joey
