"Pinging"

I am kind of new to this whole "pinging" your blogs thing. I understand that you are supposed to ping your blog everytime you update. But how many pinging services do you send it to? I know the program "Submit Em Now" can send it to hundreds, but is that even worth it? How do you best maximize "pinging"?

Also do you ping the blog homepage or do you ping the page of the new post?

To notify the social search engine's that you have new content... this triggers a reflex action as the social site's get crawled daily..they will follow to your site and index your fresh content

Since the pinging is pretty much answered, here is a ping list you add under settings - writing - update services.

This list has worked well for me.

I have just tried to edit my settings but can't seem to get to the right page?

  Tom, click on "Settings", then click on "Writing"
  
  scroll down the page and you will see an area called Update Services...copy and paste the list above into that area making sure only one ping site is on each line, and then save.

  Neil, did you check the old forum at all? we've been around this subject many times before and there were always ping lists etc posted - this is a very old subject that's been asked about a lot before.
