Any tips for converting cold traffic?

For the past month I've been dabbling in paid advertising (PlentyOfFish.com).

Long story short, my opt in rate to my squeeze page sucks. I'm getting around 15%

The exact same squeeze page converts at around 50% to my really targetted traffic. (Google/Articles/Blog Comments etc.)

I always knew the cold traffic from paid advertising would convert less, I just didn't think it would be this drastic if I'm honest.

Despite this crappy opt in rate, I've managed to pretty much break even so I know there's potential there. With a little tweaking to my ad and squeeze page, I'm pretty sure I can profit well from this.

I'm confident I can increase the CTR of my ad, no problem. But I'm not sure what else I can do to increase the opt in rate to my squeeze page.

Is there anything you can do to help convert cold traffic?

Don't think the problem is your squeeze page at all; rather your actual ad. Based on what you've said, I think you need to tweak your actual ad to better qualify your target audience. You obviously have a winning squeeze page; but your current venue (POF) is not as "targeted" as G or blogging as you've already noted. Thus, you may want to change the headline/copy of your add to disqualify all the curious and only target those you're seeking.

A completely opposite strategy is to just leave your ad as is; but make your squeeze page more appealing to the "masses". This may result in more opt-ins; but unfortunately may not result in many closed sales.

    Best!

Let's see your squeeze page so that we can analyze the problem and get a winning solution.

I agree. Without seeing the actual page it's all speculation. However, based on what you've said, I believe that it's likely the copy on your squeeze page. It's good enough for the warm traffic, but not good enough to convert a decent amount from the cold traffic. The copy is what's gonna make the difference.

Have you tried a radically different squeeze page in copy and look and feel?

Or are you only split testing different variables from your control squeeze page?

Radically different pages get radically different results.

Maybe try changing up your content or approach a bit, and see if that helps with conversions?

Not having seen the squeeze page, is there a way you can add more authority to yourself for cold leads? You could add a testimonial or two and also some evidence that you know your subject (results you have got or any other recognition). It really helps if people don't know you at all, otherwise why would they give you their email address......

Who are you targeting in pof? Have you set restrictions like country and gender?
