What's going on with Paypal???

Anyone here encountered problems accessing their Paypal accounts?

I just found out I couldn't send money from my PP account today. No reason was given why they've imposed access limitations on my account and they're asking me to do a bunch of things I'm having a difficult time resolving (like removing my bank account and adding it again, problem is I don't see any way to do that or any "remove" button inside my PP account).

Later, I found out that two of my friends have the same problem.

I'm posting this here to see if there are others who are experiencing the same problem with Paypal. Could this be a widespread occurrence with their system?

Any idea what's the fastest way to get this problem fixed? First time to get through this kind of mess.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

This almost sounds like a phishing scam. Did you follow any links to your paypal account from an email?

Thanks! I'm thinking about that. That could cost me a fortune, though, since I live outside the US. But that's not a problem.

Depending on where you are, there may be a local paypal phone number on their web site -

OK, here's where to find it.

At the bottom of the paypal page, there is a contact us link.

If you click that, you get to the Help Centre contact information page. On there, there is the option to "Speak to us" - which takes you to a login page for your account.

From that page, logging in to your account takes you to a screen where there are phone numbers for PayPal assistance.

            Hope that helps.

Thanks, Margaret. I tried this but was answered by what was obviously a robot. No human to assist me.

Now I am beginning to get scared. I've read a lot of Paypal horror stories and it could be that mine is turning out to be one of them.

A lot of people said they had their accounts frozen for months. Now, this is getting scary. I hope to hear some positive stories about how they got to resolve similar issues with Paypal...

As Gary said I got this yesterday in my email. This was a scam..a phishing attempt...do not ever click a link in an email to go to a website that is supposely paypal. Just go to your web browser and go to PayPal that way. By the way PayPal home page always starts with https: not http:

I've had problems with PayPal in the past - not phishing - but I think it was to do with an illegitimate withdrawal by some scammy site. Anyhow - it was a pain - having to fax details, corroborating addresses etc - but I responded quickly and it was sorted within about 72 hours. You just have to work the system...... Good luck.

try calling them on this number: (402) 935-7733

They are usually quick to respond if during the automated voice recognition menu selection you just say "i want to speak to a customer representative"

Unfortunately i have had to just go through a load of BS because someone used a stolen credit card to access one of my sites - worse still since it wasnt flagged immediately i was unable to take immediate measures to prevent the person gaining access to all my digital media.

And since they dont offer seller protection for digital goods i cant help but feel someone just stole $247 since i know for a fact they accessed all the media. I maybe looking at a much bigger loss if the media ends up on a P2P sharing network... which i kind of expected would happen at some point, just not immediately...

All the media is watermarked at least, but that doesnt stop people from sharing it though...

    hi Razorblade,

I just tested and everything was ok for my Paypal account. I haven't experience such similiar case before with them. I only got 1 letter from them recently - more on asking for proof of my address.

Other than that, no major problems.

I don't know if your in the US or not, if so here is Paypals Toll Free # and hours
    1-888-221-1161

4:00 AM PST to 10:00 PM PST Monday through Friday
6:00 AM PST to 8:00 PM PST Saturday and Sunday

I had many scam emails sent to me, they do an awesome job of looking JUST LIKE Paypals mail. When I talked to them they said a quick way to know if it is a spoof mail is by the who it is sent to. If it starts out "Dear Valued Customer," or something like that it is a scam!

Paypal assured me their emails ALWAYS start out with your full name.

      Yes, they do.

But, remember that PayPal knows your name. So, they won't address an eMail to "Dear PayPal User."

Also, I don't think they ever put a login link in their eMails. I think they'll tell you to go to the website and login there.

Usually, what they send (besides confirmations of payments) is promotional materials. Maybe you can opt-out of those; I don't know. They don't send them out often enough to bother me.

I would guess that they would also eMail you if there was an actual problem with your account.

In any event, never click a login link in an eMail purportedly from PayPal. Always go directly to PayPal.com and login there.

Mine was limited the other week for sending about $100k to my bank account, of which I wanted to wire from my bank account to an offshore one. My Bank in the US froze the funds, and was sent over to a, what they refer as "Lost Funds Department", which the fraud squad take care of.

Right ole mess it was, all because I had set up a Business account, cos I prefer to have a username to be seen when payments go into it. Apparently, when you send funds to your bank account, it's recorded as the receiver's paypal business name and not in your name which the bank account is under.

I had to contact paypal about it, and have my bank colleges 3rd party services, the fraud department to have a 3 way call with them to verify that indeed those funds were mine and i wasn't committing any kind of offense.

I had to remove my bank account and re-add it after my account was downgraded to a premier, cos it still had my business name (so paypal likes to refer it to) still attached to any transfers to my bank.

Whole process took about a week to get sorted, now everything is fine.

Wow! That must have been a real pain in the ass!

How did you exactly remove your bank account from your PP account, Loz? I was also instructed to do this as part of the steps to resolve my limited access but I do not find a "remove" button inside my PP account. All I have is the "add" button. Seeing no "remove" button, I tried clicking the "add" button, thinking that I would then remove the previous entry but was told that I cannot add it because it was already attached to my PP account. Sucks!

I just hope they'd lift the limits on my account after they've heard my explanation over Skype.

          HI ya,

erm, you know where you can add your bank account details, via the profile link next to your name?

You can either add, edit, or delete, it's there.

Yeah, it was a pain in the arse, cos 1 hour later after the restriction was removed, they put it back again... the bloody sods, apparently the guy I spoke to, Jason who's supposed to have high level access to your account and have authorization to life limitations, seems he wasn't allowed to, so as a result, was limited again cos I had to prove why funds were going into my paypal account.

Like, what next are they going to ask, the color of my underware and how many times I pick my nose per day, and which finger I scratch my arse with... gawd'n bennit!

Oh, BTW, you can't add or remove bank accounts when your account is limited, you need to go through the limitations process first, ie, send documents of your address, bank account, and any business documents (if applicable)...

Give them a call and ask to speak to a resolution center rep'

          Hope this helps mate.
