Offer services that you outsource

Hello everyone.

The last couple of days I have been thinking about starting a Multimedia Design business. The work will be outsourced so I don't have any real overhead costs. I will be offering almost any kind of service because it's easy to find an outsourcer for almost any job.

The work will be outsourced, that means that I don't have a portfolio. How will I convince people to hire me instead of someone with a really large portfolio?

And how do I find costumers for my business? SEO is very hard because there is a lot of competition and I don't have a lot of money to spend on advertising (Adsense for example.)

I will be using Social Media but that's not enough to attract a lot of costumers.

Thanks .

only a decent portfolio (= a lot of free work) will get you clients... IF you are lucky.

I have a simple business model for you dear.....

Promote your service with attractive slogan in your signature on forums....

You are out sourcing the whole work so displaying your own portfolio would be ethically not good

So you can ask the supplier to provide you his portfolio and you can display that on your website....

If there is anything you can P.M me and we can discuss.....

Personally I think that it's also possible if you offer services for a small price. People will buy from you because it's cheap and at the same time I'm building a portfolio .

I've seen a number of success stories of marketers who had no portfolio but still got the gig.

Check out the offline section if you're thinking of doing this locally- there's all kinds of wisdom in there that can help you out.

Another vote for forum signature marketing?
Let me know how that works out for you.

You are going to have to tell millions upon millions
of middlemen across the planet that their entire
business model is unethical and wrong.

Not necessary, and you could lose business
when they go straight to the supplier. But
hey, if you want to risk it... Unless you are
suggesting that he operate as a VAR?

That will be difficult for you to do,
seeing as how you cannot send
      any PMs yet...

      ^^This is exactly right.

By the way, you may want to familiarize
yourself with what a "VAR" is. It stands
for "Value Added ReSeller" and it means
that you openly sell the products or services
of someone else-- But you do it better than
they do because you add some product,
service, or guarantee of your own.

This allows you to, for example, sell
name brand services under your own name
and still make a significant amount of sales.

(Of course, if you are going the other way
and selling very cheap services at an
inflated price, i.e. outsourcing the jobs on
Fiverr, well then you probably don't want
      your clients to know!)

You can build a portfolio by doing 'pro bono' work.
    Get a copy of:

You should find a used one ebay or amazon.

You can contact the people you are going to outsource to and ask for samples of their work and put those samples on your site but don't forget to tell the person who supplies the sample this.

Thanks for you post. I wasn't familiar with the term VAR. I'll look it up.

        Thank you .
Glad to give you an idea.
        "VAR" isn't widely used outside
of the IT industry, which is a
real shame if you ask me.

You can get business without a portfolio, as long as you come across as knowing your subject matter then you will be fine. Once you get one satisfied client, then ask them to give you a reference and build from there. Good luck.
