I don't have any facts to back this up, but I think text links and "go to product page" buttons convert very well. I think images, banners, astore and widgets do very poorly in general because they look like ads and set peoples bs-meters off.

Text like "Go here to check out if that deal is still available" is so much more natural to follow and better integrated with your site.

Most of my amazon advertising is done where I create the actual page around a specific product (review style) but I see a lot of successful affiliates using custom style widgets with fancy graphics to display relevant products automatically.

    It depends, for me.

On review/comparison sites that cover a lot of different products, with traffic coming mostly from search-engines, I use inline text links only so as not to be too intrusive. I have found these to work best. Some of these visitors might not be here to buy immediately, and I don't want to ruin their experience and scare them away by being overly promotional, with the whole site looking like one big billboard.

If a page is more of an isolated pre-sell with traffic coming predominantly from emails I've sent to my list, I know visitors are already expecting a promotion and have expressed an interest in buying that specific product by clicking through. In such cases I'll probably use a tasteful combination of inline text links, image links and graphical "buy now" buttons, making it as easy as possible for the visitor to hop from my page to Amazon.

    Text link is worked well.

Put the "take action word", such as :
This Best-Selling XXX tend to SELL OUT VERY FAST!!
If this is a MUST HAVE product, be sure to order now* to avoid disappointment

*Link - use open in a new windows is better, so visitor can look back to your site.

But sometimes, image plus link is converted well. Try inserting an animated images in your post article. Create your own animated image(s). These may appear in Google images search.

    Just combined both.

    Cheers.

Although all good tips I find that the best CTA depends not only on the specific products but the market niche. There seems to be a difference in how men and women respond or click as well as by price points.

I do agree with DireStraits that you have to walk a fine line to make your CTA prominent enough without scaring off prospective buyers.

Bottom line I had to do a lot of experimenting with each of my sites until I found the best combo.

I have found different links work on my different sites. I have not actually split tested any of this, maybe it's time... :-)

From my experience text links inside your review post work the best.
Widgets that Amazon provides perform very poorly and not even worth trying.

For me, it's a no brainer. My in-context links perform very well. I also use image links. What I don't use are banners and widgets. They utterly suck.

Yeah, it would seem now that banners and widgets are good for cosmetic purposes of websites but the actual performers are the neat text links within good reviews. I have come across many senior Amazon players airing the same opinion.

For my review sites, I use text links and call to action buttons (example: Read 100+ customer reviews on this product here) which then sends them to the product review page at Amazon.. Converts well.

What % of people do you think steal commissions (browse to amazon.com) when you use a graphic like that? I am just curious if it is significant.

For me, the text links always perform well in my Amazon sites. I usually use these informative Call To Action phrases for my text links:

    - Click here for today's price
    - Click here for more customer reviews
    - Click here for more info

I also use "Buy Now" CTA but they didn't work as well as the above CTA. I think because most people are looking for product reviews when they come to my sites. They aren't ready to buy the products yet until they get enough information to make the buying decision.

I usually set all outbound links to open in a new tab so that the user doesn't leave my site.

I do it for a couple of reasons.

        > When someone is done with Amazon and closes the window, they are back on my site. Sometimes they go somewhere else, sometimes they stay on the site, but they have the choice.

        > Some of my promotions are lists or 'kits', collections of items. And I haven't found a good way to do groups of items, so I make the links open in new windows. People can add items one at a time. A little clumsy, but it somehow gets the job done.

For my sites images have worked best. It seems like other formats would work better for sites styled differently.

Text links in product reviews (even incidental ones) work really well for me as well as the Rotating Banner Campaigns by Category - the important thing is to get them to Amazon through your site.

Text links which flows smooth with your review works best.
Also buy from amazon button works well most at the end of the review
