Where do I start...

INTERNET MARKETING

NAME: Luis
JOB: US Coast Guard
AGE: 19
SHORT TERM GOAL: Make an extra $200 a week online.
Hello all!,

I just hit a wall and I'm desperate to climb over it. I've always been interested in making money online and even tried a thing or two. I tried a few ways and did not come out too successful. My short term goal is to make an extra $200 online doing whatever it takes. I stumbled across this site in a totally random way and thought this would be the place where I learned the basics and this is the place I would credit when I'm a multimillionaire (doesn't hurt to dream) So for all you IM Guru's out there, where do I start? what do I read, I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

Hello Luis!

There are a gazillion ways to start but a really easy way
for you to start is with a blog. You could write all about
Coast Guard stuff (that's not classified of course) or
something else that you think would be interesting. Then
once you build up some traffic you could promote various
affiliate offers such as ringtones or satellite systems or
something.

Let us know what skills you have and we can give you
better recommendations.

You seem to be a decent writer... why not offer article or ebook writing services to Warriors while you work on your own IM business using the extra money you earn?

Joint Venture my friend.

Ask someone if they need help with something. Or browse this forum looking for someone with a problem and tell him you will do a JV with them.

You can utilize both of your strengths and make some quick cash, make a friend for life, get a network started, get valuable advice, utlized established resources, the list goes on.

Luis, the first thing that comes to my mind is for you to use your knowledge and expertise from the Coast Guard.

Water, swimming, swimming exercises is just starting to be a big thing right now. At Ezine Articles there are a lot of articles about childhood safety and swimming. I realize that it is Summer and that the "Teach Your Kids to Swim" angle might not be as long lasting but you're in California ( so am I) where everyone has a pool and children needing to know how to swim is a big deal all year round.

"Let Me Teach You and Your Children How to Stay Safe in the Water the Coast Guard Way"!

You already have the credibility to know this. True, you might have to do some more research into the finer details of children and swimming but as you are learning more you are becoming more of an expert.

You can start out by putting up a blog at Blogger to test this out. Find an affiliate program from ClickBank, PayDot about teaching kids to swim.

Write some articles ( from your research ) to get some traffic going. Have a pic of you in your Coast Guard uniform, standing tall and talking about the importance of water safety and just how dangerous it is and as someone who knows, you would recommend...the affiliate product.

As you do more research, start thinking about your own product (ebook, then videos for the backend sales) after you get that going you can move into the weight niche and show people how to lose weight with water training videos.

Your Coast Guard credibility will get you an affiliate check and you will start to learn more about how to do this so you will be ready to launch your big "Weight Water Program" someday.

You can do this!

Making that amount of money online should be no problem for you. I like you got ripped off many times and thats why I created my website.   My suggestion is to find a niche or two that you want to work with and then follow the lead of people who are writing and posting in that niche --where ever you find them.
  
  If you want to build success and reach your earning goals, just follow people who have built their own success and add your own 'spin' and do things better.
  
  You're certainly welcome to look at what I've done and continue to do. I was in your shoes 18 months ago.

  There are a lot of great suggestions in this thread.
  
  Are there any products that you have used in the past that you could give a review on? What I like to do is sell physical products where I am making at least a $20-$30 commission...usually more
  
  So what I do, is I go over to the google external keyword term, type in the name of the product, use the phrase match option..and see how many searches it has...then I go over to google and type the term in quotes.
  
  Usually, if it has less than 20k competiton, that is pretty low hanging fruit
  
  Make sure you also look for keywords like "product x review" etc...low searches but these are buyers.
  
  Then I would make a squidoo lens(very easy to do) and I would write some articles, submit to ezine articles, hub pages, and some other directories and link back to your squidoo lens via your keyword
  
  That should help get your lens on page 1 of google as google really like squidoo and you don't have to mess with making your own blog at this point...I suck at it lol

  WOW!! I am extremely impressed with the feedback I have gotten. Matt Maiden, I really enjoyed your reply. Seeing as how you basically put yourself in my shoes and just took off was very motivating. Also, I really found pmore's idea very intriguing. I do believe I am a decent writer and would love to help people with their e-books. If anyone is interested in working out some kind of a deal I'd be more than willing to negotiate. At this point I'll even take some mentoring as payment.

Hi Luis,

Welcome to the forum.

An extra $200 shouldn't be too tough for you, all you need is discipline and the desire to take action. Judging by your day job I think those things are a given lol.

Writing articles like the other guys say is a great idea...

In fact, I bet you could make $200 all in one go by putting together a package of private label articles about a popular subject and selling them here in the forum. Say you have 12 articles, you could sell them in a pack for $10 each, and limit the numbers to say 20 or 25 packs being sold, and bingo, you get your first $200 or $250.

This would also be a great introduction into researching and writing articles etc and may give you ideas as to where you want to go from here...
