The jist of affiliate marketing?

I ve been doing affiliate marketing for a month now and made a few sales however i want to make sure i have the process down right.

Method1: The jist of affiliate marketing is to get a targeted keyword presell page with low competition high in the google rankings so that people can view my presell page and eventually buy my product via affiliate link?

Method 2: I was thinking since a lot of people research before they buy wouldn't it be better to maybe rank high for a information site that hosts all of your articles and the reader can read about become more familiar with his problem and than at the bottom of my articles there is an affiliate link that solves his problem?

I know method 1 is much more popular but isn't it important to provide value to the customer? At the same time i would like to know which one makes the money money

Actually I wouldnt minding some info on this too, I am planning on making one biggish website containing all of my affiliate links - it will be around the same niche yet that niche holds a lot of different products for sale. I figured having an information site for anything in this niche would make people stick around and spread the word, only downside is it going to take me a long time to set up. I plan on setting up about half of it, getting it online and then adding articles to this as I go along - maybe even offer a forum too. I am going to start off with affiliate links but may progress onto selling e-books with even more information.

The number one method i would say is pretty much the correct way and at the same time you want to build a trust with customer so they know they can buy from you and continue to purchase things from you . Building client base is very important also, so keep it up your on the right track.

Having an info site with affiliate links on it is no guarantee of making affiliate sales.

There can be many different aspects to affiliate marketing. Like any site, you need traffic, a good sales pitch, a good product, and willing buyers.

Many affiliates often rewrite the sales copy of an affiliate simply to make their sales copy, A) better, B) more unique, and C) to stand out more.

Long gone are the days of taking a single page and plastering it with affiliate banners. Most people know that those are affiliate products.

So the true path is to find products you believe in and that provide value to your customers. With a content site, you may wish to capture your customers email address. then market affiliate products to your list of subscribers.

It is all about trust. The more people who visit, then get on your list, and develop a trust in your content, and your product choices will become loyal customers.

It really works a lot like normal brick and mortar stores. If you go to Starbuck's and the guy spits in your coffee, you stop going there and go to Dunkin Donuts instead. Because you lost trust in Starbucks employees. All sales, online or offline, depend on the rapport you have with the customer/prospect" that "wanders into your shop".

The aff product is still simple a product. When you shop and have a wonderful experience, you tell others. this builds trust. Hope this helps a little.

It sounds like you are trying to determine which of the following is better:

    - Writing a product review
    - Writing a niche article that funnels visitors to an affiliate offer

    Answer? Both work very well.

In some niches making affiliate sales is as easy as just listing three places to buy something and comparing the prices.

For instance, if I typed in "Sanyo 4gx Digital Camera" I'm probably looking to buy that item and don't need to be 'sold' on it...just give me the link to the lowest price!

But for something like, "Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet" (an information product), I'm more inclined to be looking for social proof and the assurance that this diet will work for me.

Now for non-product keyword terms like "How to lose weight quickly", you can write an aritcle going over strategies to do this with ease and then send your visitor to a review of a guide that will help them achieve weight loss more quickly, or you can close your article with a call to action straight to the vendor site.

Both work great, there are no "rules" .

Physical products generally have lower commission rates but require a lot less 'preselling' and generally convert better than info-products (in my exp.)...you're leveraging the already-established brand of the product, so you don't need to explain 'why' your visitor needs this item and instead can just list prices, places to buy it, and copy and paste the product description.

You could get 30-50 reviews done in a day if you really 'hustled' it!

    Does that help?

    Cheers,

    Scott

Thanks for your indepth reply I apprechaite the advice. I basically bought domains that contaon keywords with low competition that match my criteria. Then i found click bank products to match them. My main question was whether its better to just put up a presell page i.e review on my domain just as one page or create an information site with multiple articles pointing to my affiliate link as well as a forum etc. Something that will keep users coming back?
So far from the feed back im guessing its better ti just build a 1 page presell/review site as well as include a list. Would this be correct?

The most important factor in affiliate marketing is list building...IMHO.

By building a list you build an asset. Otherwise you will be nowhere when you stop doing what you are doing now.
