Autoresponders that accept imports?

Hey all, I know I'm usually quiet around here (busy!)

But - I am looking for various autoresponders that WILL let you import without having the whole double opt in stuff.

(No, please don't tell me about aweber).

Here's why:

I have some old customer lists (totally legit, have receipts from their purchases etc), and another older newsletter list (around 45,000 subscribers).

Our previous two servers were so bad because the guy we hosted with was constantly hacked, plus he sold hosting to spammers. On the other server, when we emailed (even though totally legit), his other client (whom he also worked part time for), would complain that WE were taking up all the server resources. (He wanted to mail his lists).

We finally left and got our own server about a year ago. But in all that past time, we had to stop our big emailings, because nothing was getting through anymore. (Our own email addresses were refusing them - eesh!)

I've not bothered over the past year and a half or more, but have been requested by some associates to go back and reconnect with our older subscribers.

Obviously I don't want spam complaints - they aren't, they're legit opt ins, but I can't upload them to Getresponse without them doing the whole double opt in thing (or thinking we're spamming when we're not).

Yes, I do know that probably 1/3 of the emails will bounce from people changing email addresses over that time. (Which raises the 'spam' issue even though its not spam, but if someone forgets or cries wolf at the drop of a hat like yahoo people are notorious for... )

Anyway - does anyone know of half decent autoresponder systems that WILL let me upload and contact these lists (while possibly cleaning them from any bounces that occur?)

I'd rather use a proper service than my own server after all the hassles we had a few years ago.

I use Infusion. They allow you to import lists. You have to check a few boxes confirming you got the list in acceptable ways, but it is allowed.

iContact will allow this - but they put you on a review list until they're satisfied you're not trying to spam folks.

Basically after you release your email it has to be approved. But it is quick - typically something less than 5 minutes. The larger the list, the more likely they'll flag it for review.

But if you do get a lot of complaints - they will close you up pretty quickly - any email service provider will. They have to protect their deliver ability.

    I highly recommend them.

Hi Jmidas - is infusionsoft reasonable in pricing or do they charge you for every email?

Loren - hmm... I got a bit of a runaround (different stories from two different staff members) there and a little slow on their response, so I let it go. I could try again though.

It is not cheap, but they do charge a flat monthly fee - about $300. There is an initial fee too - look around for specials, as they seemto discount it pretty well. No per email fees. I think once you hit some very high number per month of emails you have to upgrade to a slightly more expensive amount per month - not sure what - I think in the $450 range. I think that number is something like 500,000 emails per month. I've never gone that high so i am not 100% sure on the higher levels.

I have been with them for 4 years now - they have gone through some growing pains, but I think are now an excellent company. Great programming - you can do a ton with it, very good customer service.

for self hosted.... ARP-3 (paid script) or Infinite Responder can be customized to allow this, or possibly phplist.com

Did a little tweaking with Infinite Responder and it works fine. Not the BEST autoresponder out there, obviously, but it gets the job done.

If you want more details PM me.
Bringing up old threads to "announce" your upcoming
new service could be construed as spamming.

Especially when you're asking people to PM you for
      details.
