When is a .co worth it?

I found a major search term / product with a .co available. Good product, proven seller over the years.

Think a .co is worth the time or should I just use a longer keyword and go with a .com?

I think I can rank a few pages good for this. Would the SEO boost from having the EMD in the .co and then follow up with long tails after the / be worth getting the .co???

Well, first thing depends on competition!

If competition is NOT LOW, I'd go for .com !

I still don't understand the concept of a .co versus a .com--especially if the .com is available!

Oh this .com is NOT available.

I'm thinking get the .co, and then rank pages. For example. Lets say that the .co I'm looking at is for the keyword "bicycles"

well bicycles .com is gone and is way high in the search results but keywords like

    /bicycle-workouts

    /bicycle-tires-for-less

    /bicycle-accessories

    would be great longtail niches

so I'm thinking about getting the "bicycle .co" keyword as my primary keyword, then using the SEO boost from my domain to jazz up those "pages" and rank those in the searches. I think I could eventually even get up to the first page (but not the top 3) of my primary keyword, but I'm not TRYING to rank for it, just using it as a boost for my niche keywords on each page.

So each page is a niche site basically. this is a new strategy I'm trying out instead of just setting up domain after domain (which gets expensive).

    See what I mean?

Did you find a one word .co domain? Congrats, take it!

It works! Did you figure this strategy out or did you see someone else doing this? Me?

As mentioned in several threads on this forum before; No TLD's have more power than the others when it comes to SEO. Google doesn't care if it's a .net domain, a .co domain or a .com domain.

No matter what the other "SEO Specialists" on this forum says, NO TLD's HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE OTHERS WHEN IT COMES TO SEO AND SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS!

But a .com domain is better for branding, a .org domain is better for organizations, a .info domain is for information sites, etc.

PS. I wrote this for the ones who will tell you that a ".co domain isn't SEO friendly".. I know they will comment on this thread sooner or later.

This is the truth. So as to whether or not there's a benefit to having an exact match domain, there's rumors that it is less powerful than it was with all of Google's changes. I recently bought a .co because it was an exact match to what the site is about and I have another one that has always ranked well for its keyword, so it's pretty much up to you ... your preference.

Yes, but .co is not TLD, it's ccTLD, country code domain for Colombia, which is a big difference, unless you're Colombian company. It's a marketing trick that is sold as something that represents short for 'company'.

Whether a dot com is better from an SEO perspective has been the subject of endless debates though I personally feel that that a good ranking depends on various on-page and off-page SEO factors than a just a domain.

Dot coms do have more market value since the demand for them is higher as compared to a dot co.

If .com was not available I would consider the .co

While there's the factor of users thinking .com is more trustworthy, as for SEO, I've never seem any great difference between them.
