Article Directory Software

I'm looking for a very good Article Directory software. Something that works similar to ezinearticles.com.

I presently have a website that is very well known in it's niche, and has content going back almost ten years. But I'd like to expand the capabilities of this site to provide for others to submit their own articles in seamless fashion although I do want to be able to moderate and hold for review.

Other features would include the ability to send email to all or specific authors that have an account.

I'd prefer to be able to "drop" this software into the present site without too much reconfiguration and of course, I'm not interested in using stock templates that some of the article directory software seems to require.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm on a Linux/Apache/MySql/PHP platform, and also prefer something where the code is available and can be modified to suit my own needs at times, if possible.

Thanks!

Well you could use those free cheap scripts article friendly (cheap/no security/sloppy coding) article dashboard (cheap/no security/sloppy coding).. But if you have a budget for a real script you can send me a PM ....

      What a crock...

      As usual James...

I would suggest doing a search of results for Article Friendly.

Then do a search for what ever the "product name" - "therichjerksnet" is selling... Good luck.

Some people just can't sell something on it's own merits, and resort to tearing down the competition to make a sale. Pretty lame.

This is not the first time for this guy, as he has attacked several warriors products recently.

The question is... would you really want to do business with a person like this?

I have also my own article directory articlesroom.com which I am selling right now, but you can use dashboard, or if you have budget you can hire someone to code it for you. If you're looking for someone you can PM me.

I'm not looking to submit to other directories, but to create my own. Thank you, however!

Needless to say my web hosts closed down the database.
I own my own servers and small facility where I do my hosting. Point well taken though for others considering their own article directory.

Out of curiosity, what software did you use, and were you happy with it?

ArticleDashboard.com had a free script. It's not bad.

It was one of the first ones I looked at. Unfortunately, it's got some security issues and as far as I can tell, isn't being maintained or updated very well.

I, too am looking to replace Article Dashboard sofware with something better, more secure, easier to customize, not encrypted, and generally with a more robust admin area.

Like WealthyBlogger who started this thread, I would like to "'drop' this software into the present site without too much reconfiguration and of course, I'm not interested in using stock templates that some of the article directory software seems to require." Also, it is imperitive that the new software not be encrypted and be able to convert an existing Article Dashboard database as I have serveral thousand articles I don't want to lose.

I'm not against paying for the software, but as I am on a budget, I'm looking at under $100 and no monthly fees. I was looking at Article Friendly since it had most of what I was looking for in such a program. I don't understand why some people are dissing it and don't like it. What is wrong with? Does anyone have any incite?

Any ideas you all might have are greatly appreciated and thanks!

Soram - I'm still looking. Article Friendly has the "back end" admin area ion encoded, so that's my concern with it at this point.

That is exactly why I did not use it. I was also very concerned with article dashboard so I dropped the project altogether. Might make a nice source of links tho... On another note, many warriors told me that their article directories did not take off the way they thought they would, just pennies a day with adsense and every so often an affiliate sale. Just one of my NMOC blogs blew their entire AD out of the water earnings wise and my NMOC blog took about an hour to setup and I wrote 1 article to promote and submitted it to 20 article directories.

Well, the site I am thinking about trying to better automate and encourage more article submissions is quite large and gets more than "pennies a day." I think it could do much better - probably with a bit of a design overhaul and some better automation as far as others submitting articles to it.

It's existed for over 7 years and gets very good traffic - but I need to find ways to update it more often. Maybe a PM is in order here.

James's article submission tool seems quite interesting, and I have used article wizard submission tool previously which has worked well, as you can store your article content as well as log in information and passwords. Check it out if you can!

    Eric,
I have been building websites for over 15 years so please do not tell me I do not know nothing about scripts. That's how I made my living for many years the only difference is everything I build is 100% from the ground up and not free open source code.

For your information the OP seems to agree with me on these scripts. They are sloppy coded and lack a great deal of functionality and have no security. These are facts and if you seem to have a problem with facts then I feel sorry for you...

      Feel sorry for me? LOL

Bottom line is it's your opinion... nothing more.

The point is you offer very little in the way of solid evidence as to why any of your "products" or services are superior in the least.

Other then your tired rhetoric and endless opinions stated as "fact", whatever you've done, or whatever your history is irrelevant.

Don't waste your time or keystrokes feeling "sorry" for me, or Jan (AF Creator/owner), our businesses are doing just fine.

And we don't have to resort to underhanded tactics to make a sale or two.

You have a great day James!

Being a non techie on a low budget right now I chose article dashboard. It can be customized a little.

If nothing else it's good for backlinks.

If I had the right funds I woulda hired someone to make a really good one.

Directory software is just that... software.

You can't just throw up a site and expect money to roll in.

A tightly focused niche blog will outperform a general directory every time.

AF is proprietary and encrypted on the back end, it's not "open source"

I don't know of too many paid scripts that are unencrypted, and the dashboard is entirely encrypted.

If you looking for easy "autopilot" money, forget about an article site, and stick with blogs.

      Best!

I use Article Dashboard for my general subject directory and it has been hacked into at least twice. The first time somebody changed my adsense id for his own and the latest git placed his link at the bottom of the pages, but I have been able to make the directory more secure. Unfortunately the script doesn't get updated by the originators, also the AD forum where you could get a lot of help and advice has been taken offline. So I wouldn't advice AD for those reasons, but otherwise I have been happy with the script.

I use Article Friendly for my travel directory and am quite pleased with it so far. It isn't free as the AD script is but there have been updates and improvements since I changed from the memberspeed script last November. You can email specific authors from within the dashboard or all of them. Articles can be imported from an AD database and the AF forum is good. Lots of help and you can suggest updates. Last week I suggested RSS feeds for author profiles and a few hours later there was a link to a plug in that would do just that. From my experience so far it can only get better.

I am also using AD, may I know what is the security risk as I have yet to encounter? Also, if you do not mind, can you PM me what are the steps you have taken to enhance the security. Thanks!

I have *no* idea what an "NMOC" blog is (LOL - that's probably sad...) but depending on the scalability you want, a really good script is Article Manager from Interactive Tools. Its generally a cgi script (for the admin panel anyway), but you *can* build your pages as html, shtml, or php if you prefer - and yes, it builds SEO friendly pages.

It has full account capabilities, you can allow people to submit as guests (and set it that you have to approve them), or you can create accounts for the authors.

The only "down" thing - you can't mass email the authors (if that's what you intended), but you can have it email them when a new article has been posted in the same topic.

From all other aspects its a pretty powerful system for about $200. (Excellent support)

They also have CMS builder which is similar but also does blogs. It's not "as much" of an article system depending on what you want. (Read both - interactivetools.com - Web Content Management Software Systems)

Alternately - if you keep up with security - I understand Joomla (free) can do it too, you just might need an extension.

(Or go to PHP Content Management | Scripts & Programs | Hot Scripts for other options).

    Hi
I have been thinking of doing the same - came across this one
    Article Management System
    http://articlems.com/
    appears to tick all boxes
    free
    email all members
    allows comments
    can nominate members as moderators

I think an article directory may struggle as a money earner on its own - the real benefit may be in value added to an information site

    from their home page
ArticleMS is a content publishing system designed for creating multi user, content driven sites.
ArticleMS can be used as an article site, a blog, news portal or anything where content matters. With the fine grained permission system you can choose who can publish where in your site, while you can completely change the look to your liking with the easy to use template system.

I am interested to hear more re: security of article directories
    Cheers
    Danny

AF is definitely the best package available right now. Compared to the others, it's your best bet - and it's only fifty bucks.

Bill Platt has been working on something that may come out in the near future, which I will grab up in a heartbeat according to what he's telling me.
