Is 2012 The "Beginning Of The End" for Facebook?!

Now that Facebook started asking everyone for tel (and more recently ID scan) verification everytime you add 5 friends and become non user friendly..
IS this the END?

More & More people are deleting their Facebook accounts these days:

The trend for facebook stops growing ( and even starts decreasing few weeks ago when facebook started asking their user for their governement's scan ID!! )

Is this the end ? ( or at least the begining of the end?)

share with us your opinion and let us talk objectively

Over $1 Billion in 1st Quarter Revenue. That isn't going to disappear overnight.

However, I believe that Facebook will have to focus their strategy more on mobile devices in order to continue growing.

Facebook has seen a decline in the past few months for sure. Honestly, just like myspace, people are getting bored with the layout and the games etc. I think that if someone were to make a new social network with more feasibility and a platform that was easier to use, then they could be the next Facebook.

That's exactly what's going to happen...if I take a minute and reflect on my own social media experience, it reads like this:

      1) IRC
      2) ICQ
      3) MSN Chat
      4) MySpace
      5) FB
      6) Google+

Of course, toss in some blogs and forums for good measure (AWCC, GFY, MT, various car forums, and now WF)...social media has to evolve, or it will die.

That seems to be an opinion only held by marketers who had their sites slapped down because of those algorithm updates. The end user has yet to make a peep, and I'd put good money on most not even knowing that the updates exist if you pulled them off the street and asked.

I suppose there is always going to be a saturation point .. does maturity of posting to your profile or other peoples walls have an effect? Id say have a look at your followers posting habits based on the age of their account and see if their regularity seems to decrease / increase based on adoption of new features.

Member login .. friends only accounts certainly have their place as do sites like pinterest where all is open to the public. Things evolve .. thats the nature of sites if you want them to exist over time .. adapt for your users.

And yes, I think if another site came along 10 million people would jump onboard if not for something different, then at least for curiosity.

I dont think facebook is dying .. it just needs to change at a rate to keep a billion people pinterested ( freudian slip there )

Thank goodness for DNA .. none of us would have evolved from neanderthal!

    What's Facebook? JK!

I was watching the news last night and they were saying that Facebook is worth more than McDonalds at $104 Billion dollars. I do agree that they need to change their focus. They also need to stop changing the look of the site. On my Facebook all I seem to get from my friend are requests for junk that I am not even interested in. They need to do something about this and then people will stay around I think. Oh and they need a "Dislike" button already! Just my two cents...

      Facebook Sued for $15B

As their IPO launches, it seems that Facebook is being sued for $15 Billion for improper user tracking. Basically, the suit claims that Facebook invaded privacy by tracking users, whether they were logged into Facebook or not.

The suit, filed in the Federal Court in California, combined 21 total cases from around the Country. This figure in the suit is based on US Wiretap Act, and says that based on this law, it "provides statutory damages of the greater of $100 per violation per day, up to $10,000, per Facebook user."

      Facebook Sued for $15B

Facebook hit with $15B lawsuit for stalking us all on Facebook

Facebook isn't dead or dying, it's peaking. The internet is VERY trendy, especially when teenagers are involved. Facebook will be around for another 5, 10, maybe 15 years but in that time something better will replace it. Maybe Google+! (Obvious joke)

But in all seriousness, Facebook will still be VERY popular and profitable for the next decade and some change.

This is how rumors get spread.

I been making a 5 figure a month income from FB for close to 8 months now and I have not seen a drop in anything.

If anything sales have been a ton better.

As long as people are using facebook to find their friends and government officials are using FB to catch crooks FB won't be going anywhere.

FB is to good of a resource for it to die.

      So lets see

Last year FB had a bit over 500 million users

To date it now has over 900 million users

      You do the math.

Does it seem like it's dieing.

      I think not.

These threads suck. I hate when people make false claims when they don't know jack poop about analytics or even know how to search properly.

I wish there was an idiot button on Warrior Forum right next to the thank you button.

This way we can tell who all the morons are.

Look at any major corporation and there is a well defined life cycle which most companies transition through over time.

Unless corporations figure out how to overcome increasing competition, the introduction of new technologies and the interference of stockholders, boards of directors and the whims of the market, all corporations are vulnerable to an eventual demise.

Some corporations reinvent themselves along the way and come out of a period of difficult transition bigger, better and stronger. Others continue in a death spiral until they disappear from the landscape.

Examples? Microsoft, IBM, Borders Books & More, Best Buy. Remember when Yahoo was the dominant force in search? Remember when Borders were giving Barnes & Noble a run for their money?

The Web and Social Media is still in transition. New SM sites come and go at the blink of an eye. Some take root and sprout.

Is it the Beginning of the End for Facebook? It depends how well they adapt to being a public company, whether they can monetize more efficiently, if they can battle Google for search engine position.

Only time will tell. At this point they are at a tipping point. It could go either way for FB but if they do start to have problems it will probably not show up for some time.

Facebook is like a gigantic freight train. Try stopping any train with tons of cars. It takes a very long time to stop a major train like Facebook.

I for one am not going to make any predictions, just wait and watch.

Funny, yeah Facebook is not even close to middle age, much less dead! It has reached much broader usage than any other social network... any other web based product (besides Google) for that matter.

Think back years ago, to when AOL was KING. They were thought to be unstoppable. But times change. Yes, they are still around, but nothing like they were. Every company has its peaks and valleys. Some survive and come back. Others don't.

Everything has a life spann and we as human beeings function in a certain way and get bored after a certain period of time.

What talks both for and againt the facebook lifespann is the fact that you are not anonymous anymore like you were for IRC, ICQ, MSN, MySpace etc.

Either people will use it as a compliment to phonebooks to keep a "black book" or people will leave because they can not be who they want to because they cant say and act just as they want to because its all public.

There could be a downwards going trend...what you need to figure out then is what is the new thing and I would say its more "interactive social media"...which is more focused on meeting other people and interacting connecting both online and offline.

    Hi,

My opinion on this is that Facebook is not going anywhere. It's here to stay.

If the number declines, it really doesn't matter.

I think if a Social network reach that BIG number of users like what Facebook has right now, eventually the growth will become a bit slow because it already reached the majority of internet users.

By the way, the success of a social network is not defined by the number of users it has but how it takes care of those users. With the recent Facebook changes, I believe FB is just doing its part to provide its users more ways to use their social network.

    Just my thoughts,

In 2011 I predicted that facebook would peak that year. What a foolish prediction.

It won't be going anywhere any time soon. Having said that, every site has its used by date (facebook is no exception).

If you need proof of that, just look at the top 10 (or top 100) sites of 1999 and see how many of them are top dogs today. Sure, they may still be around but they are nowhere as big as they were.
