Appreciate a few ideas on this...

www.kayporter.info is our new author website and as you can see, I'm just aboult to build it.

I'm a bit rusty with blogs, so would appreciate any ideas about the type of plugins to use.

I want to be able to showcase our latest novels and news etc, tell people what we're doing etc I dont want fancy flash stuff, just something that will draw people in

I've got Askimet installed and thats about it!

Thanks
Kim

I use akismet , All in One SEO, and that's about it. No need to go crazy with the plugins.

The site design is pretty nice actually, it fits the "romantic fiction" theme very well.

You might want to add "captcha"... so much better than akismet... but I do still keep akismet...

We're an authoring team selling our novels on Kindle and other platforms, no I'm not particularly interested in collecting emails (Is that a sacrilegious thing to say on a marketing forum lol).

I want something similar to how this one is laid out, but not sure what plugins etc to use

      http://www.keriarthur.com/

Its a long while since I set up a wordpress plug and I'm out of touch

For instance I can remember I used to use a real cool editor plugin but I cant for the life of me remember what its called

      Congrats on the new site.

Depending on your needs, I would add Privacy Policy, Disclosure and Contact plug ins. Also Google XML site map for the bots, Dagon Design site map for humans.

All in One SEO, Search and Replace, Social Sharing and Social Profiles Widgets (to share your social sites). CB Ping Optimizer to avoid over pinging. My page order if you want to order pages. Date exclusion to avoid showing the dates posted and most importantly WP DB Backup in addition to a quality Backup Plugin that backs up the whole site.

You may also want to add a nice Amazon plug in to easily add your book photos, links and related goodies though that is not essential if you are adding just a few links.

Pen Name + 8 eBooks + social media sites 4 SALE - PM me (evergreen beauty niche)

If you send me a PM with your email, I will send you a little file with these. You will have to update them but it will give you a good start.

I agree the header/footer/theme is very nice and sets the blog up well

I have always found that using different types of content works best, articles, videos, pictures and giving away free stuff. Maybe a competition - although not sure how that would work in your niche

    Hey Kim,

Nice job with the graphics. Can't believe you said you don't want to collect emails lol. Is the purpose of this site to sell your novels or for people to come to who want a novel ghostwritten?

If selling, then how about giving away a few chapters in exchange for email.

If ghost writing, how about a free report about mistakes they could make if choosing the wrong ghostwriter etc..

Either way, collecting emails should definitely be a part of your strategy so you can stay in touch with your audience.

By the way, I recommend the Optimize Press theme if you're going a product launch/squeeze pages etc... makes it easy to get things set up faster and looks good.

    Cheers,

    Anthony
