Question for the Masters of PLR

It was suggested to me by my mentor a few minutes ago that should lock any PDFs that I give away and offer the rights to for passing on. (Not stuff I am selling, stuff I am strictly giving away and wish for others to give away as well.)

I'm split on this, though. My mentor is fantastic at what he does, but he's not in PLR at all...he's in SEO and AdSense. If he told me to do something in there, I'd do it immediately and count the dollar bills tomorrow.

In PLR, though, well...I'm going to mentor him one day.

So...what do yall think? If you use it a lot or re-sell like I'm starting to do, would you lock a PDF like that?

If I understand what you are saying, you want to pass PLR rights on but the document would not be able to be edited? I think that most people probably wouldn't be interested in this.
The basic idea that you can edit PLR and make it your own is what is appealing to most users. Even though you are giving these documents away for free, there is no incentive for someone to pass it along if they can't edit it themselves.

I've seen a lot of PLR (I have a ton of it on my hard drive) that includes the right to pass it on, but not modify it. Most of it will list all the standard rights an then put a box with an "X" in it beside to show what you can do with it.

I'm not much on the idea myself, but I don't want someone else taking the credit for my ebook either. The actual PLR I am doing, that I don't mind....that's what it is there for. The e-book, notsomuch.

Adsense and PLR is different game of play. Just get good feedback from your Adsense mentor and try to mix with your skills. The results maybe some fantastic formulas.

No, I am totally sure that you are not giving away the product together with the PLR license. If that is the case, you will need to lock it up tightly since you are giving it away with a complete giveaway rights.

The concept behind this is that several unscrupulous individuals will try to insert their secret links to these reports without your information. Thereby reducing your long term profit potential.

Some of these individuals in most cases might even remove the entire link back to your site which is the main reason for the giveaway rights.

I think your mentor is very correct in this case.

If you're just giving the giveaway rights, no plr, then you should lock the pdf. If it has your name on it and you don't want it changed, then that's certainly a way to go.

You can also choose to make it rebrandable so that people can put their own affiliate links in the pdf, whether they are to your site or to other programs you have listed. That gives them even more incentive to give away the report, which gets your name out there even more. Some people also do something similar, which is to let people sell the report for 100% commissions. The point is to increase your visibility and reputation.

I'm out of thanks already for the day, so I can't give you one Sharyn.

I see your point. The current e-book/report I'm giving away is something I don't want rebranded at all. It's 100% and I don't want anyone else taking credit for it, so I guess I'll go back and lock as per your suggestion and Louis' suggestion as well.

      Thanks everyone for the advice!
