A question that EVERY warrior should answer...

Ok ok...

I must admit I have not been around the forum as much as I used to be.

But one question I must poll and ask...

There has been (at numerous times) 500 people viewing the main thread... bringing about 1000 people on the forum at any one time.

Why hasn't there been a "LIVE" warrior chat implemented?

This may be a harder question to answer with a real solution but I thought it would be a fantastic idea for such a forum with many many many return visitors.

Hey I could be crazy but I'm sure many warriors would love the LIVE chat application to be implemented.

Nathan J.

EDIT: Post Update

I totally understand the 'spam' situation...

But there could be rules... just like within the forum.

Maybe live chat for WAR ROOM members would help Allen to moderate it. Of course it can be moderated by a select few members... I think making it an option within the paid section of the forum could weed out those that would'nt take it for what it's worth.

I definately see the problems with a 'free for all' live chat.

I remember Eric's Friday live chat sessions... could only get to a couple of them but I definately enjoyed them!

Nath

Server load on that would make the site crawl. not to mention theres no way to keep up with that many people typing things into chat. How would anyone get answers to their questions or hold conversations?

Been a bad idea on most every large forum i have been apart of.

Eric Louviere actually used to host as Warrior chat on Friday nights
through Hot Conference, but because of problems that I won't get into here,
      it was discontinued.

Let's just call it another case of a few ruining it for the rest of us and leave
      it at that.

I think it's a good idea. BUT I think there has to be some kind of limit to how many people can be in one room at the same time, otherwise it would be chaos. And obviously the servers have to be able to handle it. A lot of ifs and buts.

I think Mr. Allen will buy a new server just for live chat...

    Em... Who's paying?

What if we implement some kind of friend on Instant Messenger Type Service (Think AIM or MSN Messenger) that was run through the WF and only usable by people with WF accounts.

That would eliminate the spam problems associated with a chat room.

Everybody could have their WF Instant Messenger Friends list, and everybody could have a button on their profile or something to add a warrior to your Instant Messenger friends list.

That way if you do not know the person adding you, or you do not want to talk to them you could ignore/deny request/block etc.

You could of course add the feature of group chat (like on AIM and MSN) where you invite other people into the conversation.

Think of the possibilities of implementing Coaching WSO's at lightening speed.

"My Coaching Chat Session goes live tonight at 7 - Pay here and you will be invited"

    This seems possible to me.

      Hi all,

I think the idea of chatting on the forum is just not necessary.

Warrior forum is ideal as it is enabling a large number of members to contribute well thought out posts over reasonable time spans.

There is nothing stopping interested menbers to set up a separate chat room outside the forum.

      With regards,

      Geoff.

    Absolute mayhem. Bad idea.

However, several warriors have hosted successful live chat for warriors outside of the forum. Almost all of them are no longer doing it. So there's a reason why...

Why not try it and see what happens? There are a couple of hosting suggestions on this thread.

IRC is the way to go.

With tools like Mibbit.com - Easy and fast Webchat it's real easy to embed a working chat page.

Of course there should be moderators with ban/kick rights to get rid of idiots who spam.

Is ustream video chatting? Why limit to that medium? Text chat is still the king. Did you consider setting up a channel in one of the IRC networks?

Sridhar is correct - one way to start this is to set up a private chat room on an IRC network. Then let folks know about it. Plenty of free clients around for all OS's- I use mIRC.

Also several folks have set up Skype chats which provide both voice and text (irc is typically only text if I remember correctly).

    best,
