ENOM down 3 times in 7 days

Can you suggest what I can ask of them in regards to this?

Their answers as to the reason as to why the servers go down are:

"technical hiccup" <-- very technical term
"server resyncing"

(I'm asking why they go down, so they give me a reason and reassure that it won't happen again)

What would you tell them? I'm calling the superviser today.

May be demand a back up server? Months of free hosting? Moving me to a different host? [...] ?

Read the agreement you have with them - chances are there is a disclaimer or a limit to liabilities in that agreement.

Most hosting providers don't give detailed explanations for short downtimes - and they all have them especially if they are upgrading servers.

If this is rare - just keep an eye on it. If it's frequent, move to a different hosting company.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

They've been pretty good I guess, it's just the past 7 days it's been bad.

The downtime is 2 hours and went up to 5 at one point.

Anyways, I talked to some lvl1 tech, waiting for the manager to call me back. Will ask to be moved to a different server (that's all I wanted in the first place).

I've been using Enom since 2001 but primarily for their domain registration reseller program. I am using their hosting services for one of my blogs. So far there's been no down time.

I suppose in the hosting business, down time is bound to happen. Unless you are in a VPS or a Dedicated Server environment which will reduce the probability significantly.

Most downtime happens because the server is overcrowded or if not, one of the users are just abusing the server inside out, they are eating up the server. So when we're hosting our sites on a shared hosting environment, I do think a down time is normal to happen now and then.

Good thing if you can setup mirrors if your site is very important for you, it will require a little bit of work up front, but that's how you do 100% uptime.

      A small update

Yep, some down time is bound to happen, but 3 times in a span of 7 days, I'm gonna go look for a more normal ->normal...

Their customer service really disappointed (probably the main reason I'm switching).

Spoke to 3 different CSDs and asked each of them to have their manager (John) give me a call.

It's been several business days; guess he's too important to do that.

Moving over to Godaddy (may be hostgator). One solution that was offered is to me was to open up another hosting account (pay 26$ charge) and move the stuff myself to another server. They said "our developers are too busy, so if they do it for you it might take a long time and you will still have a down time"

P.S: What a disappointment... I remember listening to the founder of ENOM talk at one of the conferences, seemed like a genuinely nice person that put customer service as something of a paramount importance in his enterprise, wish I could send him an email myself.

If you are looking for a good hosting, I suggest HostGator. GoDaddy and Enom are domain registrars who then expands into the hosting market. If you got with a pure web host, you'll get totally different level of customer service in regards to your hosting account.

    Good luck!
