Thinking about the fitness niche!

I am thinking about using the fitness niche to make some money. I plan to get fit and to gain weight via weight training then lose the fat mass in a cut diet to look all nice and toned. This will cover how to gain weight and how to lose weight. By doing this I could create my own product once achieving this, but if I document my methods, diet and findings in a blog style I could gain a following with regular images of progress and weigh ins.

I have my own drug addiction website and I know that the use of steroids for gaining and losing weight is very high, and I also know that competition is high but how many of these actually have a story that you can see over a long period of time. Over 2 years I could have a massive following and like what my methods are which could be a product in the future.

What are your thoughts?

Also I need free ways to check keyword competitions, if I start this.

Thanks

The bodybuilding niche is really competitive and really saturated with good products and complete **** products.

Do you know a lot about bodybuilding? From what you're saying I get the feeling that you're a casual lifter. Is that correct?

I'm in the niche because I'm a weight gain feat from 135 - 185, but I just use my knowledge and xp to promote one of the most popular bodybuilding products....I won't create my own product in this niche because you'd need to bring a lot to the table and have a lot of credentials....or be a savvy con man.

PS. google keyword works pretty well as a free way to measure competition and find KW's

Erm I have done fitness qualifications during school in the past and had alot of experience in the gym with friends and family from a younger age just never took it seriously enough. I want to gain a fair bit of wait as I plan to join the Police in the the UK within 2/3 years and want to become a bigger size and more physically fit so its an ideal thing to do while documenting it + in the future either selling peoples products or my own

That's respectable, although I'd just use your story and knowledge to build a list and then market an affiliate offer instead of your own product.

However, if you have a golden nugget that is overlooked or underserved such as a ebook on high protein and tasty meal recipes that can be used as a 17-27 dollar back end product, then go ahead.

I just know that even with all the experience you might have (or I) that it will be really hard to break into that niche because there's a lot of well qualified and respected brands there. (ie. kyle leon, vince del monte, and john berardi to name a few)

    Hey there blackout!

I hope you don't decide to "blackout" when you've got 300 lbs of cast iron steel plate hovering above your chest! Just kiddin' with you dude ...

Anyway, you've got a great idea there, but I wouldn't post that kind of personal inside information for free on your niche blog site. I'd either offer it as a free gift to subscribers on your e-mail list, and drip feed it to them over a period 30-90 days. Or, I would offer it as an incentive for buying an affiliate weight training program through you (i.e. your affiliate link). Those who really crush it in Clickbank affiliate sales are those who offer the best bonuses to their customers. Find the best weight training program there is on Clickbank, and use your product as a bonus to boost your affiliate sales.

Assuming this will be your first product creation, I would select the best weight training affiliate product in the Clickbank marketplace, and feature it in your own weight training, fat busting, 6 pack digital product, and give it away for free in two parts: Part One for subscribing to your e-mail list, drip fed over 30-60 days; and Part Two to those who actually buy the affiliate product, featured in Part One of your own product. Part One will be about bulking up and Part Two can be all about trimming the fat and getting super cut; and both will offer your own unique insights and additions to the affiliate product you're promoting!

Just a thought ... Good luck dude!

Fitness is a good one. Yes, there is a lot of competition in it. However, you would be surprised that marketing fitness offline (rather than focusing 100% online) to locals is a lot easier than competing online with companies with big advertising budgets.

With the national obesity rate, it's rare to see someone who is really, really fit these days.

Get ripped, use yourself as proof, and you'll make some money in fitness.

Check this out: Just 1 class with 20 people at $10 for 1 1/2 workout is $200 that day.

Get at it and stay focused.

    Good luck.

There are plenty of blogs that do exactly what you are talking about. Doesn't mean you can't make money at it too but you are in amongst a large crowed.

I've just give your product away for free to get an email signup and sell someones product who actually knows what they are doing (a fitness guru or doctor or both)

You mentioned you have a site for addicts. Maybe make your site about physical fitness to help fight addiction. Could be a niche there that hasn't been explored.

I think documenting your progress is a great way to go. I have a weight loss website where I followed a particular diet and I blogged about it. This website is my most successful website and I really think you draw in more readers when they are actually following your progress.

It's up to you whether you want to create your own product, but as there are already a lot of products available in this niche, I'd be inclined to promote an affiliate product.

I do also like Tyler's idea about combining the fitness niche with the addiction niche and how to use fitness to overcome addictions.

I've been in the fitness niche for most of my IM career and have created my own products and made money with affiliate products. It's definitely really competitive and there are tons of websites and products teaching you to lose weight, gain muscle, get ripped, etc.

It's important to come at it from a different angle and target a smaller niche. Sounds to me like you could really create something big by playing off of your addiction site. Fitness is a great outlet for those with addictions and other issues that are destroying their lives.

    Wish you the best.
