I keep seeing these type of jobs on fiver... "I will give you a PR6 dofollow backlink via blogroll or guest post on my blog for $5"

They have like 450 positive comments, have been a member for nearly a year, I message them ask for their blogs, they send me the links to their "PR6", "PR7's", loads of blog posts from People who've brought their gigs on Fiverr... I review their blogs it's PR6, look at their backlinks "zero", look at google to see if the site is indexed.. it is..

I'm 100% sure they are fake PR's, because they have little or no backlinks most of the time, but how can they be indexed by Google Still? and why no negative comments?

Check this site out Welcome to SanDiegoZoo.org! PR5 which is indexed by Google with no backlinks?

IS this a SCAM?? Over 400 people brought this link for $5 that's $2000 with zero negative comments.....

Am I being dumb?

EDIT:
Just wanted to add Fiverr has some great gigs that I use all the time, I've brought 100's of gigs on there, and there is some really great stuff.. Just a few spoil it like everywhere really, just be careful.

It does sound fishy, its only $5 though. at times things that sound too good to be true are actually true.

It definitely sounds fishy I would have to agree.

However, Tiffany is right that you can't comment or rate on any Fiverr services without truly buying them.

There are secret ways around the requirement to buy a service or product before rating/commenting on it, but only on a very small scale.

Conceivably you could have 10 friends buy your services and then get them to right great reviews...but...it would be harder to do that with 450 people. I guess it could be done, but 450?

But hey, if it only costs $5 why not go ahead and buy it and check it out in completely detail. Another great thing about Fiverr is that they have really great customer service and you can file a complaint on any service you receive.

Fiverr will also usually take the side of the customer over the provider, especially if you have proof that something is a fraud.

So you could invest $5, check it out completely and if it is a fraud, file a charge back or complaint with $5 and get your money back. Or file a charge back with PayPal used to pay for Fiverr. Either way you won't be out a dime but may have the true scoop on what's happening here.

    Just my HO. Good luck.

It's because they use submitters, and while they may work now, Google has started blacklisting sites that have been using them in there new updates. It's simply not a good idea, but it's not a scam.

That happened to a buddy of mine who used one of those Fiverr gigs to promote his sites. Now none of them are any good and it basically set him back months. I am a firm believer in manual backlinks and keeping everything as organic as possible.

Just a little info about pagerank manipulation from Wikipedia:

    False or spoofed PageRank
In the past, the PageRank shown in the Toolbar was easily manipulated. Redirection from one page to another, either via a HTTP 302 response or a "Refresh" meta tag, caused the source page to acquire the PageRank of the destination page. Hence, a new page with PR 0 and no incoming links could have acquired PR 10 by redirecting to the Google home page.

This spoofing technique, also known as 302 Google Jacking, was a known vulnerability. Spoofing can generally be detected by performing a Google search for a source URL; if the URL of an entirely different site is displayed in the results, the latter URL may represent the destination of a redirection.

    Manipulating PageRank
For search engine optimization purposes, some companies offer to sell high PageRank links to webmasters. As links from higher-PR pages are believed to be more valuable, they tend to be more expensive. It can be an effective and viable marketing strategy to buy link advertisements on content pages of quality and relevant sites to drive traffic and increase a webmaster's link popularity. However, Google has publicly warned webmasters that if they are or were discovered to be selling links for the purpose of conferring PageRank and reputation, their links will be devalued (ignored in the calculation of other pages' PageRanks).

The practice of buying and selling links is intensely debated across the Webmaster community. Google advises webmasters to use the nofollow HTML attribute value on sponsored links. According to Matt Cutts, Google is concerned about webmasters who try to game the system, and thereby reduce the quality and relevancy of Google search results.

So yes, they can be manipulated, and no I would not invest in it, not even for $5.

As much as I believe there are some really gigs on fiverr, you really need to go into it with the mindset that like everything online people will be looking to make money and alot of gigs will be a waste of time! you really need to find good ones and stick to those!

fiverr is the number 1 marketplace of scams and scammers.

it is too easy as fiverr seller to remove ANY negative feedback, so that makes it heaven for all scammers.

I COMPLETELY disagree. I purchased a few hundred dollars worth of stuff on Fiverr with myself being happy with something like 99% of it.

You need to go on Fiverr and buy things people can't fake.

Videos. Voiceover. Even Facebook Likes and Youtube views. Junk Traffic.

But when people go onto Fiverr expecting to buy multiple HIGH PR backlinks for $5 etc then that's your own fault.

Use Fiverr with the brain in your head and you won't be scammed.

I have found some really great people on Fiverr. A friend of mine who has a hair and beauty forum hired two different people (a male & a female) to write posts on her forum and they were amazing.

One of the Fiverr forum posters actually kept posting even after her gig was finished and she had been paid. She just liked the hair forum site and hung around to continue posting on "her own time" This Fiverr lady offers 28 forum or blog posts and she is very honest. She has lots of regulars.

I found a guy in Australia who helped me fix my Tumblr site for just $5 and before that, no one could figure out what was broken and Tumblr would not respond.

Yes, there are some scammers there, but if you take your time and read the gigs, you can find some good people.

I personally haven't lost even a penny buying gigs on Fiverr and I've bought probably 20 in the past 2 months. Just remember - buyer beware.

Most people in fiverr are just giving their feedback to fast.
They look at the PR6 page with their link on it and they give a positive feedback at once.
When they notice the link is a scam, the transaction and everything is closed as far as i know!

      • There are a lot of these "my PR6 blog" offers on Fiverr now. I contacted one of the sellers and asked for the blog URL. She refused to give it to me. Her reasoning was fear of negative SEO.

I think I'm going to buy some of these. When they turn out to be redirects, I'll expose the sellers on my blog and ask for my money back.

I agree that you have to check out the quality. Even if it is only $5, if you continually use it 10-20 times with that mindset and get nothing out of it, you lost quite a substantial amount. Im kind of wary of Fiverr so I don't buy a lot of gigs from them. I still buy some because I don't know where else to go but I buy it with the mindset that 'oh god hope this works'. :p

You can easily check for fake PR on a domain by typing info:sitename.com into Google. Fake PR domains will return a result other than the domain name you typed in.

I've had really good experiences with most blogroll links with fiverr. The problem now is that Panda has done a number on blogroll and footer links. You're right that you do get what you pay for, but most gigs I've got have actually given me more value than I paid for.

I bought my first gig on fiverr yesterday, which advertised links on four sites closely related to my niche. The names of the web sites sounded familiar. I envisioned a short links page on a niche real estate web site.

What I got was a link on an imitation real estate web site, next to hundreds of other random links. I emailed the guy back and told him to remove the links because I'm nervous that I'll be penalized.

Lesson learned - ask for the links first before buying!

There are 2 reasons of the high pagerank with no backlinks

    Either

    1. 100% original content

    or

    2. Generating thousands of hits to the website using adf.ly or some other hits generator.

    =================================

30,000 hits a month is enough to raise a pagerank by 1 number

Websites are typically made up of levels or tiers. The first level is the home page itself. The second level includes your main categories. The third level opens those categories into products, information, etc, and so on. Because second tier pages end up on global navigation bars, this causes those pages to gain a lot of page rank at the expense of 3rd level pages. The third level push essentially takes some of that 2nd tier page rank and pushes it down to 3rd tier pages. To accomplish this task you simply just need to add a "nofollow" attribute to all links on the 2nd tier that point to other 2nd tier pages. Not too difficult really.
From a spider's perspective your global navigation is different on the 2nd tier. The result of all of this is that you get more traffic on your 3rd tier pages, which are typically your product pages and that means more sales! This technique can get more complicated though. You can get even more ambitious and do the same for your 3rd tier links but link back to the home page, not the 2nd tier pages. You can be even more aggressive by nofollow-ing links back to the home page on the 2nd and 3rd tier.
Getting into the more advanced side of this technique can be risky if you don't know what you're doing. Try it at your own risk and only if it makes sense.

Guide on how to check Pagerank domains

    1. Never rely on PR checkers. PR checkers do not check for the 301 redirect pagerank scam.
    2. Using info:domain (e.g. info:google.com) plus SEOQuake or PageRank toolbars in Google search is not a good way of checking a fake pagerank site. PR scammers nowadays uses a technique that can even fake the Google pagerank toolbars.
    3. In checking for fake PRs, use Open Site Explorer, remember to check both the domain with “www” and without the “www” (e.g. Google and google.com)
      • PR5 or more should have a Domain Authority of 50 or more. The higher the Domain Authority, the better.
      • You should see a wide variety of links coming from different domains. Many links should be listed, unless one of the links comes from a PR7+ site.
      • Majority of the links should not be just blog comments.
      • Open Site Explorer also indicates if a domain was 301 redirected which gives a fake pagerank.
    4. Go to Internet Archive where you can check and see the history of the domain. A PR5+ domain should have quality content. Using the Interent Archive, you can also spot for 301 redirects.
    5. Go to Majestic SEO and Backlink Watch and check for the links again. Majority of the links should not be based on comments. Check the links manually, and make sure that it’s not a paid link. Some domain sellers buy a ton of homepage links for about a month or so, the sell the domain, and stop paying for the “paid” homepage links. A legit PR5+ site, should have links from respectable and high-quality sites.
    6. You can check the domain in Google, and check for the cache. Sometimes Google cache screenshot lets you can spot which site was 301 redirected to. Although you should not rely on this method, as some PR scammers even has a technique for this.
Before buying a high pagerank domain, you should first check whether its legit and not faked. This can save you a lot of money as high PR domains are being sold on higher prices. While the process of identifying fake PR domains is time consuming, you should always do some research and verify if the high PR domain you will be buying is legit or not. This article aims to help you spot and identify fake PR domains. Hope this guide help you know how to check fake pagerank domains.

    • If you buy anything SEO related on Fiverr without knowing any details then you get what you deserve.

      Really?

We've got people on this thread saying a person would have to be stupid NOT to use Fiverr. And we've got people saying if you believe what the seller tells you and you get burned, you've only yourself to blame.

Can you see how confusing this is to someone who is not an SEO veteran?

Wouldn't it be far better if Fiverr disallowed gigs that make false claims, like the fake PR blogroll links or the link pyramids guaranteed to make your site #1?

Because most people who use Fiverr are not IMers. They're not cynical make-money-fast types. They're just trying to promote their business.

I did a video on Fiverr for a guy who runs a t-shirt shop at Lake Havasu. I wrote an article for another guy who is a trout fishing guide in Idaho. There's a world beyond IM. Don't assume every Fiverr buyer is like you.

They actually do disallow gigs that make false claims.

But you have to report the gigs to their support team, and they will remove any jobs that are not legal, e.g. selling copyrighted software etc.

I recommended that they add a button to report illegal gigs, but unfortunately they have not done this, so you have to contact support with the gig details...
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6371153].message }}
        • They actually do disallow gigs that make false claims.

I beg to differ. Fiverr allows tens of thousands of utterly worthless SEO gigs that routinely make false claims.

But you have to report the gigs to their support team, and they will remove any jobs that are not legal, e.g. selling copyrighted software etc.

There's a difference between someone who is claiming a result that will never happen and someone who is selling copyrighted software.

What annoys me about Fiverr management is that they have taken a soft approach to dealing with gig types they know very well don't deliver the value promised. Sellers of SEO gigs are sometimes denied Levels and special privileges you get if you sell something benign like a clown video. Seems Fiverr wants the gig revenue but doesn't want it to look like they're encouraging the comment spammers.

I beg to differ. Fiverr allows tens of thousands of utterly worthless SEO gigs that routinely make false claims.

If what you mean is that Fiverr does not review the posted gigs or ensure they deliver what is promised then I agree.

However my experience with reporting illegal gigs and gigs that do not deliver what they promise has been very good. Prompt refunds from the support team. Actually the few times I have had complaints the sellers have typically refunded when asked. Only once or twice have I had to escalate to the support team...

Anyways, I've been very happy, and will continue to use Fiverr for both SEO and other gigs in the future...

But of course other people might have had different experiences...

I am amazed at the number of people who are prepared to completely disregard fiverr...

I have had extremely good experiences. I have used fiverr for lots of different types of jobs, video creation, document conversion to kindle format, CSS problem determination, document translation and also backlinking...

I have bought hundreds of gigs and have come across only one bad seller... and I filed a complaint with fiverr and got the money back real quick...

Fiverr is an amazing market place!

I bought fiverr gigs for logos and feedback/advice and some other things and was quite satisfied with it. But then i tried 3 times to hire 3 sellers to convert a html theme to a drupal theme. total flop. they even start the job. they didnt even try. we are not talking about complicated themes. I literally cant understand why they have gigs in the first place. I didnt check them out well enough, thats for sure, forgot to look at their ratings. They had number one or number two ratings, but looking at their ratings, its the same "buyer" at the same time giving the same comment LOL
These characters have like 8 different gigs each set up, but just one or two orders in the queue on all the gigs. Here is the thing that cuts my cheese. I wrote and long rant to fiverr, they never wrote back! unbelievable.
The only thing I can think of is, somebody told them they could keep the money if they didnt do the work.
My complaint to fiverr was this. If I just cancel, i get credit back, but then I wont be able to leave a negative comment. The sellers on two of them keep asking me to cancel and I refuse. I absolutely will not cancel and let them walk away. I am trying to find a way to leave negative feedback.

look, this is fiverr, I expect people to do 20 minutes of work or less, or do what they said they could do in the ad. if they can do it in 2 or 3 minutes, i dont care. if they are sick, or something happening, they need to stop taking orders and come back when they can. but fiverr lets them keep taking orders and getting backed up. they have to fix that.

for well over a year, I had seen the ads saying html themes could coverted to drupal. In the back of my mind I really depended on knowing I could get that done. I hate being disappointed...oh well.

The biggest scam lately is the outrageous claims to get you 20K to 30K Facebook Fans for $5 and then say it'll take 10 -18 days to deliver.

Then within a week you'll get a message like this (this was a real one I got)

        YEEAHH! YOUR ORDER IS READY!
me sended to your link it will take 78 hours to update dont worry thanks you so much for order come back soon

Fiverr waits 72 hours before they say the job is completely finished so that little extra time gives them a little money without having to complete the job. The smart ones set up enough fake accounts to praise the service to movie them up to a Level 2 for more of a legitimate look. The one above I put to the test hadn't had any replies for a month after a huge slew of positive ones but they all sounded like the same person had written them.

I've actually let Fiverr know several times about scam one, but they always say that unless you have an order, don't bother them. So I put in an order and let them know the results along with questioning why they're not listening to their experienced buyers to watch certain accounts. Otherwise, everyone will just start thinking everything on there is a big scam...but there's plenty of honest sellers actually doing what they promise.

It's just been the past few weeks that there's been a slew of scammers doing the same exact type thing. So the big thing to watch for is to see how long the person's had an account on Fiverr along with how long the job has been set up too. Many of these are created in the past day or so along with the account so that's a big flag to watch out for.

Fiverr waits until it's too late and many people get screwed over, but if you place an order and you get someone who claims it's delivered when it hasn't even begun, immediately let Fiverr know so you can get your money back before it's too late.

For Fiverr it doesn't really matter since when you get your money back, it just goes into your Fiverr balance so you can purchase something else on their site. They're in a win win, but if they get enough scammers screwing people over, another more reputable site will pop up and gladly take over and do a better job at vetting.

I'm with you. I have used them with no problems. No matter where you go, you have to use common sense. Any of us can get scammed by anyone, anywhere, bottom line. I always advise people to at least send a message before purchasing and see if you get a positive response. Fiverr, overall is a good place.

Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Hello! I personally think it's ok though. I know fiverr has lots of good stuff in it, though it really does sound suspicious. But sometimes, things like this are true and for a reputation like fiverr's I'm sure it's legit. Best of luck to you on this though.

I dont think it is scam. The domain might be old or something. But as said above fiverr has a rating system. And if the sercive isn't good then it is not worth it and there wont be any good rating. Did you check for negetive feedback?

a vast majority of fiverr gigs are scams. real and serious sellers cannot survive out of doing a lot of work for just 3.6 $ what is left netto from a gig

Fiver SEO services except bookmark services are really bad services, I think... The backlinks are always from the root domain and not from the page where you get your link.
Why so many positive ratings? For 5 bucks you can not expect the world.. And mostly the people who buy those services are people NOT ranking page 1 yet..
I will recommend you to stay away from Fiverr, when talking SEO. In the section warriors for hire, much better services are offered... Please be sure you get high PR contextual backlinks or links from web 2.0 sites as they are the most effective. I have sites with multiple #1 positions on Google only made with those...
But there is lots of great gigs on Fiverr, where you can get lots of quality for almost nothing... You just need to find your "partners" in there

9 times out of 10 it's because the PR is coming from a redirect. The problem often with this particular service in general (at least on Fiverr), is that they get saturated with way too many outbound links. I've seen these high pr sites with hundreds of sidebar blogroll links. This not only makes the blog posts less effective, but if you're not towards the top of the blogroll, the chances of Google even finding your link are slim.

However, I am very "Pro Fiverr" for certain gigs, just not something like this.

Fiverr is a great place full of AMAZING deals, but there are some types of gigs that I learned to steer clear of very early on. The #1 gig category I avoid like the plague is anything SEO related whatsoever! I advise you to do the same. These are all either downright scams or simply worthless!
