For almost 10 years I've been involved in the Audiovisual Industry. I've always been amazed at the fact that not many people know about this industry. One of the interesting things about the AV industry is that you can get into a great career without needing a formal degree. On top of that, AV techs typically get around $200 per day right out of the gate, on their first gig.

For several years, I've had the idea of creating a training course for people interested in this career field. I pitched the idea to my bosses at the AV company I was working at, and they were uninterested. The fact is that people want jobs, and if they can find a job doing something fun without having to pay tons of money and waste tons of time in school, then why wouldn't they?

I created an online training course and launched it yesterday. I'm curious to see how popular it is with affiliates. This isn't your typical sensationalized IM strategy with big promises of thousands of dollars a day and free traffic to your site. This is something that I know and believe in, and hope to make it a growing business...eventually getting into face-to-face training.

I would think that this would be a fairly easy product to promote being that it caters to those seeking employment or thinking about going to school. There seems to be lots of great places to advertise and promote.

Please let me know your opinion of an Audiovisual training course. If you aren't familiar with the industry, please let me know. I'll be glad to provide more information on it.

Thanks!

Broadcasting is sort of a different thing altogether. I'm in a similar situation as you. I went to Full Sail and paid $50k in tuition and loans only to graduate and get a $13hr job at a studio, and I was one of the lucky ones. That's what I'm trying to let people know...that you don't have to pay that much money or go to school even to get into the AV business.

This is more about corporate AV. Events typically held at hotels and convention centers. I worked as a project manager for about 6 years traveling the country managing these events. We would hire freelance technicians in each city we went to paying on average $300 for a 10-hour day.

It's not that hard to get into the freelancer market. Sure you have to start out small, but as I said, even starting out you can get $200 per day easy. If you charge $100 per day, you'd have more opportunities than you could handle.

My plan is to provide the current program at $147. This includes Audio, Video, and Lighting manuals that teach the core techniques and equipment. We also include a career starter guide that explains the best ways to get into a job quickly. We will add more content and valuable information along the way, and those who have purchased already will get this new information free of charge.

For those customers that would like a little more help, we're thinking about doing an "elite membership" which would include our personal help in finding work. Both myself and my partner have long been working as labor brokers for the AV Industry and provide freelancers with work. So, we would do the same for thing for these members. In the future, we will probably begin a certification program that includes testing.

There are many opportunities for adding income streams to out business. Although its quite expensive these days to place an ad on one of the major job posting sites, if someone were to do this, they ROI would be incredible I think.

It certainly isn't and you shouldn't even think of promoting it to a crowd that is looking for those types of shiny object courses. You should be advertising on places that deal in career opportunities, A/V enthusiast forums, and the like. The affiliates you recruit are likely not coming from the Warrior Forum or any related site. Your affiliates will be people that have audio video sites and forums that have mailing lists.

Good for you for diving into a field you are passionate about. Best of luck.

Thanks so much! I completely agree that our best marketing opportunities will come from the career opportunity sites and job posting sites. As far as going after AV-related forums and lists, I think these people may already be involved to where they don't need our training. I'm thinking we need to go after those that are unfamiliar with the industry and don't even know it exists.

I have several friends that I went to school with that are running audio in smokey clubs each night for horrible bands and getting paid peanuts for it. When I tell them they could run audio for corporate events, which is much easier, and get paid much more than where they are, they are confused on what I'm talking about. They aren't even aware that such opportunities exist.

It's those people that I think we need to target. I'm hoping that the affiliate marketers on warrior forum have the experience and know-how to get promotion exactly where it needs to be....and make a great commission while doing it.

FYI: I was involved with a production company for a while. We did everything from conventions to boxing matches. The AV guys we hired got anywhere from $200 to $500 a day and that was just a few hours work. I've also worked many years in the broadcasting side. That side pays like sh*t, unless you are the broadcasting company, which I eventually became.

Awesome! It's good to know that someone on here can back up my claims to how much techs can be paid. I've done events in Palm Springs and L.A. where freelancers would accept no less than $600 per day. These were experienced video engineers, but they were getting work at this rate regularly. It doesn't take long to build up to this rate if you're willing to learn the skills.

I would suggest looking around to determine how much demand there is for something like this and running with it.

You could easily do a test where you have a lander set up to collect emails and just run ads for keywords that your target market would seek. Sites like LaunchRock - Set up a “Launching Soon” page in minutes and Landing Pages: Create, Publish & A/B Test Without I.T. | Unbounce are great for niche testing like this.

You'll know pretty quick if you have something worth building out.

Thanks for the advice! I feel like this will be a profitable niche, its just a matter of finding the good spots to promote. Because this isn't a typical niche that affiliate marketers would work for, I think it has pros and cons. On the one hand, they may be able to think outside the box and find interesting new ways to sell this product. On the other hand, it may be something that doesn't interest affiliate marketers because it is so different than most products they promote.
