Aweber vs. MailChimp? Help (and the great debate)

I'm using SBI! that has their own autoresponder for ezines but I'm looking to add one to my website.

What I'm looking for is something that's easy to integrate, where if I want my ezines to go out in a specific order at a specific time they will and that's good with tracking. I'm also looking where if I want to add, say, a 5-part series that I can do that easily and seamlessly and test it before it goes out.

I keep hearing aweber and mailchimp are great to use so I want to know the pros and cons of using either or and what your experience has been.

I know there's other threads but this is specific to me and my situation. Thanks.

All you need to know: If you use even 1 single affiliate link in Mail Chimp, they'll cancel your account as soon as they find out about it.

I tried MailChimp when I first started. I found it very clunky and hard to use though I did like that it was free. And as J says you are not allowed to use affiliate links with them. They don't like marketers.

It is a pain to switch to another auto responder so best to get it right the first time.

I really like their TOS. It cracked me up when I looked at it just now, until I got to bullet point #3 underneath "Who Can Use Inmica Mail"

Terms Of Service | Imnica Mail

Imnica Mail reserves the right to refuse service or to terminate accounts for any user, and to change eligibility requirements at any time, in its sole discretion.
That's scary to me. They don't list out offenses like Mail Chimp did. I've never used Inmica, but that's enough reason for me to stick to aWeber. I've read here in the WF where others like GetResponse, so it may be worth checking out. I know nothing about it, though.

Getresponse is somewhat costly for beginners. Just signup with AWeber for $1 in your first month.

They have a very newbie friendly CP user interface.

      Hi Rick,

I normally stay out of these kind of threads because it's a matter of preference. But since you are having issues, I want you to know I'm glad to help. I will PM you my email address or you can click that skype button next to my name and chat direct with me. If you are having support/service issues for some reason then I'll get them corrected for you.

He will, too, Rick - he's not just a pretty face: they're very good, that way. GetResponse and Aweber are the market leaders for a reason.

I would forget Mailchimp, for all the reasons mentioned above, and more.

I'm happy with Aweber, but when I add another autoresponder for my business's new lists (which I will eventually, just on the "eggs and baskets and dependence" principle) it'll be GetResponse.

The best one for you to go to is whichever one you're most confident will still be there, and still be reliable and uncomplicated, in 10 years' time. Because changing autoresponders can be a nightmare and a disaster (especially if you've started with a free one). For this reason, it's one of the very few things you really do have to try to get right "at the first time of asking".

Opinions vary, and few people have personal experience of large numbers of autoresponders, but for me, that means GetResponse or Aweber, and nothing else.

Above all, don't touch a free one, for many, many, many reasons ...

I'm actually debating between Aweber and GetResponse. The thing I like about GetResponse is how you can import contacts from gmail, linkedin, and 16 other services to help build your list.

Not sure if Aweber has this but I contacted them to find out

That's a neat feature, let us know aweber's response. I bet they don't have that option yet or at least not one as advanced as Getresponse's.

Speaking from personal experience got with Aweber. There is a reason why most of us marketers stay away from MailChimp.

Aweber's response: Only if they've given permission. Here's a breakdown of the types you can vs. can't import: http://ow.ly/aYSTu

Basically it seems that you CANNOT do this. Which is a bummer b/c you'd be surprised who might opt in if you at least send out a notification.

I have used Aweber since 2005.

Left once because my shopping cart had built-in Aweber
and then I missed the interface it so I returned.

What I enjoy most about Aweber is is weekly education
and email tips they send out.

    Another candidate is YourMailingListProvider.com

They have everything you need for autoresponders, website forms, list management.

They let you send up to 1,000 emails a month for free, with the only thing being no analytics. To get analytics and no double opt you need to buy one of there plans which start at $3.50 for 1000.

I really liked this as I don't know enough about list building yet to be comfortable paying out $20 a month to aweber. With YMLP I can build up a list first and then take a pro plan when I am more confident and seeing some ROI.

I tried iminca but found they flagged up everyones spam filter.

    Hi guys..

Thanks for all this conversation in regards to autoresponder services.
I've had my experience with mailchimp just for a test of how autoresponder works.
But seems like you all guys suggest me to leave MailChimp behind and opt either Aweber or GetResponse. Will get between those 2.

    Thanks again..

    Aweber - it's bi-winning

There's a reason why so many Internet Marketers use it and there you go; you have all the arguments needed in this thread. I just love how the MailChimp option was destroyed with the first post in this thread.

I haven't used any 3rd-party A/R in years for actually sending mail, but have used them for development on various projects.

That said, from a purely technical and development perspective, I rank them like this:

    1. Aweber & GetResponse - They tie for first place for ease of integration and technical development.

    2. MailChimp - A close second integration wise and a terrific API.

    3. ImnicaMail - Integration that includes anything other than an email address is a bit clunky due to how form design is managed. Still, integration is not too difficult.

    9. iContact - Still shaking my head over the absurd complexity of their API (and yes, 9th place is intentional).

Again, I'll emphasize that I do not use any of these services personally - I've only integrated them on various projects for others.

As part of my development experience with these 5, I've had to create accounts and learn how to use them. So based on ease of use and learning curve, as well as integration, I'd most likely also recommend both Aweber and GetResponse.

Just gotta throw in my 2 cents here. While Aweber IS the choice of most marketers, I have been with ebizac, and it has been very good to me....and MUCH less expensive than Aweber. I didn't care for GetResponse interface at all. Imnica mail is a JOKE! Their service is awful, and when you need help they are nowhere to be found. Mail Chimp has been covered as was stated in previous posts.
    Hope this helps as well.

Like I've been saying for years, autoresponder threads very seldom have accurate information. I'm not talking about preferences either, because people are going to have those, but people are usually just repeating something they've read somewhere else (and that information is usually off too).

As already pointed out, this is not true. Getresponse has a free trial. And their prices are comparable. If you had visited their website you would have known this.

I've been using them for a little over a year and they are okay. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired though, they really could learn from some of the market leaders.

While they're less expensive than a lot of other companies, I still prefer my Aweber account. I like their API, their interface, and their customer service has always been consistently good. And to add balance to this post, I also have a Getresponse account and have also been very satisfied with them too.

Just bear in mind that there are a lot of other companies out there such as Constant Contact, E-mail Aces, iContact, (insert 150 other companies in here) and there are also software providers, too many to list here (someone already mentioned Infusionsoft) and then there are total e-commerce solutions that also have autoresonders, again, too many to list here. There are also a dearth of self-hosted solutions (for the more advanced marketers who have the technical know-how and budget).

So, has anyone tried self hosted sofrware like these :

      1. active campaign downloaded edition
      2. interspire email marketer

for active campaign , for 500 usd you get a 50,000 subscriber licence . Also the active campaign API looks just awesome . their 1 million subscriber licence is 1800 usd .

for interspire the 1 user licence with unlimited subscribers is 495 usd and you get 12 months upgrades.

      They look very tempting

I also use acyba.com for my joomla websites . I have 2x enterprise editions and i have good deliverability , usually higher than any other of the "usual" email marketing companies but the interface aint so good and the templates are crap so i use my own. About the higher email % It could be to the fact that all email from the dedicated server goes out through the godaddy email relay servers . As i understand godaddy monitors their mail servers status for spam flagging.

      Anyone with comments ?

Interspire - I spent about 3 weeks testing this at the start of the year, as part of my "day job". All I can say is DON'T - it is not a very easy system to use, and setting up even a basic autoresponder series proved to be a nightmare.

I manage a few lists with 100,000+ members as part of my day job, and these do fine on Aweber. Moving to Interspire literally caused me to have nightmares.

GetResponse and Aweber are the market leaders for a reason
    Are they?

    Aweber: 115,000 customers

    GetResponse: 250,000 customers

    CampaignMonitor: 400,000 customers

    ConstantContact: 500,000 customers

    iContact: 1 million+ customers

    MailChimp: 2 million+ customers

MailChimp is better in most ways... features, ease-of-use, delivery rates... if you're not an affiliate marketer. They get those better rates by not being associated with the spam that comes with that community.

I use their transactional e-mail service, Mandrill.

Aweber is a thousand times better and more professional. Furthermore, Aweber actually allows affiliate marketing.

MailChimp also sucks monkeys because of those "cutesy" emails they send every time you get a new subscribe/unsubscribe. Reminds me of Squidoo and all its cheesiness.
