I've been into IM for a while now, but never have I made a list. I've been successful in some things, but decided it was time (I know, sad). I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a ebook or two to get this started, and it could market your site a little or something, so it can be free for me, as I market it.

I hope this isn't a ridiculous thing to ask, but I'm not wanting to spend much time on the ebook itself. Basically, if anyone's interested, I'd love to promote your ebook while building my list.

Also, I'm curious as to what a good size list was. Thank you for any answers.

the thing about building a list is branding yourself at the same time

what ever you give away to people it needs to be high quality but more importantly YOU have to have done it because your not going to build much credibility building a list giving them someone elses free report, this defeats the whole object of building a list

theres no rule to say you cant give away someone elses free report or info but i highly recommend you give something away that you have created

its not something you can set up in 5 minutes it does take time but its certainly worth it in the long run

I have to agree with you to a certain point Paul. But, the op is just starting out and with little experience in creating his own product to give away he runs the risk of not starting at all. There's no problem promoting other people's products or services if the are of a high quality.

Look at it this way: It takes a very long time to create a stream of your own products, therefore you will inevitably promoting other offers anyway. Promote high quality products that provide value to your target audience and always send them free valuable information. After you gain some traction, you can then create your own products and work on from there.

There are millionaires out there that have never created a product of their own in their lives, and never will. They can still make it work. The solo ad providers that that are making big bucks do it by promoting other peoples offers.

Some day further down the line you can promote your own products, but when starting out, it's completely fine to promote other people's as long as they're quality.

I am making an absolute killing at the moment promoting membership sites and high ticket products...they're not my own.

      Dann,

I saw your post about listbuilding but I couldn't reply to it or PM you because I don't have enough posts on WF yet.

Here's the deal: I'm a star when it comes to SEO and I'm far from an IM rookie (been doing IM for 4 years), but I'm somewhat of a rookie when it comes to listbuilding. I've done the whole GetResponse and AWeber thing, had like 2k people on my list with my previous company, so I do know some email marketing.

Using other people's lists is new to me though. Total rookie haha! Perhaps we can help each other out, since we each have different skill sets?

What I want to know: where the hell do I find out more about these soloads you were talking about and same goes for adswaps... what are those? And where can I find more info?

Hope you're interested in talking with another IM guy who's been in the game for several years. I'm kind of looking to create a mastermind, you know?

I have found out that in order to generate some sales from your list,
Your subscribers need to know you, they need to like you.(Branding)

Rapport and Connection needs to be established at first.
You accomplish those two with building value and Trust.

Building a list is all about getting targeted traffic to a high converting squeeze page.

Getting your list to actually ever buy anything from you is all about value and not being too promotional.

I general add the "if you want more information immediate check this out" in the P.S.

BTW, I make most of my income from niches that are totally unrelated to making money online or internet marketing, but since it took me so long to find all that data, I do provide a free course on how to create a list from the very basic to more advance information as a share.

      Excellent question!

I recognise what Paul says and with my hand on my heart, I agree with him...

...however, in the early days, you need a product fast... to get a LIST going. I agree with Ivana Dee on this point.

For any newbie's reading this thread right now, don't make the mistake ttdub made ...you must build your list as soon as you can! Make it your GOAL...

    Hello OP,

List building is a great way to do well online, but like everything else, can be a tough road without proper planning and action. List building is always my number one recommendation to people when they ask what they should do at the beginning of their IM career because depending on your skills and budget, it is one of the fastest ways to earn substantial and sustained income online. Even without any budget and little knowledge, it's still totally solid.

For you, with knowledge and experience, it would hopefully just be another few extra steps on top of what you are already doing.

Depending on the niche you are interested in, there are many ways to go about it but the basic idea is the same as it is for IM in general:

    Traffic ==> Product ==> Sales/Conversions

But with list building, your initial product may not be a paid product. Here is what I personally feel is important for list building:

    - Create your own free product to give away, you can use PLR, but I would do you own unless your in a hurry. Branding helps tremendously and being the creator of a product is a step in this direction
    - Drive traffic to your landing/opt-in page. If you are in the IM niche and want to get fast results, this can be done using solo ads with extremely powerful results. If not in IM niche, solos are a bit harder to come by, but possible. Additional traffic sources are the usual suspects.
    - Test, test, and test again. See how your landing page converts, and if you have a product or OTO to sell, do the same for that. Test Test Test and adjust until the front end of the funnel is streamlined.
    - In your autoreponsder sequences, continue to brand and build trust and personal repoire by providing valuable and relative content. Help people and then help them again. Go above and beyond and/or provide them info that they need to succeed. Only promote when you believe in and know the product you are promoting fairly well. When you promote something, you are putting your brand behind it.

There is obviously a lot more to it, but these are good basic starting points. Things like JV'ing, bulk traffic buys, more product creation, ad swaps, and more will help to build the list further. Additionally, there are many psychological aspects that can come into play when interacting with your list. I tend to operate on the quality, not quantity side of things, but everyone does it differently.

Check out (search) products from Jamison Palmer, David Eisner, and Rob Jones. There are tons of great resources on the WF, but these three really provide solid products with little fluff and proven methods ~

I'm also just starting out and trying to build a list. Some of the information just in this thread alone has been excellent, so thanks to all.

I appreciate all the information! I've actually decided to convert a book that I started writing not too long ago into an ebook. I'm currently working on my squeeze page. And as long as I've been in this, I've never heard of solo ads. Is that just email blasts? Thanks again guys!

Solo-Ads: Are paid email blasts, usually measured by the amount of clicks.
The vendor would usually want to send to a free offer.
You just give them your copy or they would write it for you.

Best advice I can give you is to hold a VIP / Private giveaway.

Wont cost you a penny, you don't need a product or a gift to giveaway yourself... all you need to do is find 4 or 5 list owners to agree to send traffic to a squeeze page. (make sure they know how many clicks they are expected to send)

The partners will make (on average) an extra 25% back in clicks (so if everyone sends 100 clicks, they'll get approx 125 clicks back) and you will get all the subs too :-)

Does this make sense or should I explain this better?

You should look into cheap solo ads to get your list started. Make sure you have a killer freebie to give away that is targeted to the people who will receive the offer. When I first started out I used adf.ly to get 300 initial subscribers for VERY cheap then I moved on to solo ads to build a more targeted list.

You could easily do the same thing. On adf.ly make sure you order the worldwide traffic because they are having a special on it and those subscribers won't be your money makers anyways. You want to graduate from that and move on to solo ads and ad swaps.

Lots of product creation gurus in Warrior Forum are ordering ebooks from me. They order ebooks on the ranges of 15, 20, 30, 50, up to a 100-page ebook.

Some are ordering a 20-page and a 50-page ebook. The first 20-page is a "teaser" for the longer version that has the powerful information. They do this technique for two things. To build their list and to sell their product.

While some are ordering ebooks just to build their list on their chosen niche and later sell a different product based on the requests of their lists.

I hope this helps you out.

I've been building my list for the last couple of months. Solo ads and swaps are the way to go. Make sure your squeeze page has a compelling offer. Most solo ad sellers will only send their subs to free offers. However, you can promote an OTO that can bring in extra income. This stuff is pretty addicting, making money that is.

You definitely have the best resources here on WF.

    Best Success,

To build your list you have to build a squeeze page with a free incentive to get people to opt in. Put the opt in form above the fold so visitors don't have to scroll down to see it, and make sure you have some compelling copy that really jumps off the page and catches visitors' eye.

Also, K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). Don't try to impress visitors with your intelligence - just tell them what you have, what it can do for them, and what they should do next.

Wow. Good thing I have experience in internet marketing. Because that is what 75% of these responses are...ads.

You don't need junk traffic from other people's list. You need to create your own list. And nurture a relationship with that list. Junk clicks are just that....junk.

From the sounds of it, you don't have your own product. Otherwise, you would have something to offer subscribers...an entry level free ebook.

So, you must be promoting affiliate products. That's fine. That is what I do a lot of.

Most product owners...the ones you are promoting...have affiliate programs. And in those programs they have tons of tools you can use. One of which will be a free ebook, report, whatever. They give you something that you can give away to subscribers. I recommend you find their affiliate tools page, and use the free products they give you. Then, you don't have to create anything.

So, what next? Now you are growing a list. But, if you hammer them with offer after offer, they will either unsubscribe or delete your emails without even opening them. Why should they? You aren't providing any value to them.

Now we're getting somewhere. You are building a list. You should then set up an autoresponder series. Giving away tons of free content. This builds trust. Once they begin to trust you, they will be willing to buy the products you recommend.

You will get much bigger conversion rates among people who trust you vs. someone else's list. That list doesn't know you. They don't trust you. And unless your 1 email is the best sales letter ever written, you can expect dismal to no conversions.

If spamming email lists were the path to riches, we'd all be doing it. But, that is not the case. People aren't that stupid.

Once you start building trust and rapport with your list, you can start sparingly sending affiliate and CPA offers. But most of what you send them should be good, quality content.

I send at least 5 content emails for every 1 offer I send.

Good luck to you. I hope whatever path you take brings you riches.

PS - Here is the program I went through. It is called AutoResponder Madness by Andre Chaperon. It is one of the best programs I ever went through. And this is not an affiliate link. Autoresponder Madness (Official Site)
