I.M Philosopy: Whatever it takes vs. Take it or Leave it

Over the years I've noticed two types of Internet Marketers. The ones with the "Take it or Leave it" Attitude to Marketing and those with the "Whatever it Takes" attitude.

I've found both have their pros and cons, depending on your market. I've been on both sides. Currently I'm leaning toward the whatever it takes attitude.

Which side do you currently fall on?

    Take it or leave it.

It's more a case of how much IM can I comfortably fit in to my lifestyle without it becoming a burden. The money is nice but life is short and not worth turning your fun stuff into yet another job.

I think the division you suggest is a too narrow, I could suggest many other philosophies, e.g. "Experiment and Where It Takes You?", "Eliminate analysis paralisys, take action" etc, etc, etc. And of course within each of these lines the two you proposed could be mixed up. I think ideal approach is to be flexible and when it's hard but but feels right - practice "Whatever it Takes" approach, and when't feels like a "totally dead end" - then "Forget it and move on!"

Without a shadow of a doubt 'whatever it takes'

They say you only fail when you give up!

I recently went to the Warrior Gathering in London and spoke to some of the biggest hitters in the IM circles and each one I spoke to, bar none, said they had the 'whatever it takes' to succeed attitude.

I was under the impression that all these big guns of the industry had some super power or were different in some sort of way but in-fact every single one of them were like you and me. They struggled, hit road blocks, thought about giving up but because of there mindset and there 'whatever it takes' attitude they pushed through. And look at them now!!

    That's my take on it.

    Hope it helps

    Cool thread

I'm only really just getting started out seriously, I've been through alot over these past two years and for me, getting on with my plans now is my way of emerging out of where I've been meditiating and starting the climb for the top.

Because of the way things are at the moment it's all or nothing - but that's not to say it's rushed hastyly and carelessly.

That's about the best I can tell you without unravelling pages of my life story in your thread

    Peace, One.

"Whatever it takes!" mindset is the way to go!

Have you seen those who made it? They just don't give up and are willing to take it to the next level!

There's a very big danger lurking in that sentiment that people often don't realise.

Be careful what you wish for because you may just get it.

If you go at everything with the "whatever it takes" mentality - you need to also understand when "whatever it takes" is not acceptable or is too high a price.

Using that mindset without proper understanding of what you're doing - you can spend a lot of years working yourself into a state of stress only to find that even your extreme whatever it takes attitude and working yourself into an early grave did not get you what you wanted. Or worse - that you started with misguided goals and actually got there only to realise that the IM lifestyle you thought you wanted is actually a terrible drain in reality.

If you asked 1000 newbie IMers if they could guarantee they could make $5k a month by writing content for 12 hours a day - many/most of them would probably say "yes - when do I start?".

In reality if you have a business that needs you to work your ass off for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week otherwise you make less money - your lifestyle would grow to require more than $5k a month and you would hate writing and be looking for a way out of your dream IM lifestyle.

Sure - a whatever it takes mindset can be a great asset because it's better than a give-up mindset whenever a hurdle comes, but it's not as black and white as people make out.

If you ask 1000 unsuccessful people if they think you need a whatever it takes attitude to be amazingly successful - they're bound to say yes because they're looking for the answer to why they haven't been successful.

In reality - success doesn't have to be hard and if you believe it does - you can make that your reality.

You've made many good points to think about in that response Andyhenry, scary but good.

That's one reason why it's essential to love or have a passion for what you're doing if you take a whatever it takes attitude. Don't get caught just doing it for the "money", because that'll wear out faster than you think.

I've experienced making 5K a month working 12 hours a day 6 days a week at a job I hated ... but I liked the money. 5K a month was a lot of money back in the 1980's. That's was a rough part of my life, looking back.

I believe I have the "take it or leave it" attitude in this business. That would explain my lack of success right now, I guess. But I would love to have the "whatever it takes" attitude - to be the type of person that won't stop trying regardless of the bumps in the road I come across. As long as I've been "trying" in this business, if I just kept with it, I could be a huge success by now.

Well, no time like the present to move forward, huh?!

I used to have a whatever it takes attitude, and to be honest it's some what self destructive as you start to value money more than your own personal well being, which will leave you broken in just about every way possible.

If you value money more than your mental and physical heath continue to lock yourself up 24 hours a day by all means.

I guess it's good to strike a balance since not all days/activities are the same. If for example you're creating something to test a market or idea, you'll just whip up something and put it out there. Only after you see progress do you pour your all into it.

If you give it a 'whatever it takes' attitude, you may end up wasting tons of time and getting frustrated with the dismal results. Balance is the key for me. That is, knowing when to go 'full blast', when to work normally and when to 'coast'.

Definitely whatever it takes. I recorded a free video for my list just this week about this very issue and how one simple picture changed my life forever.

Hopefully I'll be allowed to post this link, it's not selling anything, it's a free content video that will help everybody who sees it and there's nothing to buy and not even an optin form!

In the beginning I think it's important to have the "whatever it takes" attitude because youa re going to be putting in a lot of work and unlike what a lot of the IM salesy stiff says - you ain't going to be seeing big money for a while, you gotta have faith that your little patch of IM real estate will grow and you need that die hard attitude, I assume once one has cracked things and once big money is rolling in then the take it or leave it approach kicks in as a lot of the money can be earned on autopilot

I think "whatever it takes" - but you need to keep learning and comparing what's working and should be ramped up with what's not and should be dropped. Otherwise you'll be staying on one level and not moving upwards.

Whatever it takes, almost. I would add the qualifier that I would do whatever it takes legally.

If we do what Malcolm X said literally and try to succeed in IM 'by any means necessary' we might end up in big trouble.
