      Is that Norton 360 cause I have it too. It also does other invasive things like this morning it wouldn't do the live update and none of my vbrowsers would work now it says my pc may not be protected from blah blah blah. Trying to force me to renew with scare tactics. This is not my pc it belongs to a friend who I hope will let me take it off of here. That is if it will uninstall.

    anti-virus 360 (it has other names) is one of the most notorious virus. it is difficult to remove it. most of time, it pops a popup window when you browse some sites. the window simulate as a windows notification for security (or other windows message pop), it is very easy to be fooled. it shows a "cancel" button, if you clicked it, bad news! most time, it shows a security alert at right system tray (do NOT click it).

    I had a very bad experience with it. it took me more than 1 day to kill it on one laptop. I tried many suggested solutions. here is the only one worked for me:

    0) install Malwarebytes. sometimes, Malwarebytes will not install when the virus is there. you click Malwarebytes setup, nothing happened. if so, do 1-2) first, try several times. eventually, it is installed. I did this because I can not find any other way to fix the problem and I really want to keep the OS and data. once installed, restart PC.
    1) pop windows task manager;
    2) kill all threads which has weird names;

    3) launch Malwarebytes. again, you may need do 1-2) several times to launch Malwarebytes.
    4) run it to kill the virus.

    the key is you may have to install/launch Malwarebytes several times to make it work.

    or, just reformat your PC, reinstall OS, it is the reason why we need backup at least twice every week.

    just my own experience.

        I have had norton and mcafee in the past but have been using Avast for some time now and prefer it. It's been great and best of all it is free.

        Just my opinion

          easy reinstall os
          If the above is advocating what I think it is, as the first of several suggestions made in that post, then it is one of the most unhelpful pieces of advice that I have ever read on this forum.

          Reinstalling your operating system is an action of last resort. Just think of the inconvenience of having to reinstall all of your backed up data - not to mention the loss of anything that you forgot to back up.

          Always try all other avenues first.

          Regards,
          Jeff Henshaw.

    You visit a malware forum like majorgeeks.com and they will tell you how to get of it and stuff you dont know about.

    Or you could use a nifty tool called Google and find guides and even a link to major geeks.

    I would also avoid avast as it has a lot of false positives.

    Malwarebytes will kill that beast. I highly recommend that all windows users download it now, just in case you ever get hit by this monster.
