Dumb question - blog commenting still work for traffic?

I believe that blog commenting still works. However, you should supplement it with social media traffic and leverage ways to make the sites interactive if at all possible. This may help you reach your traffic goal a bit faster.

My understanding is that the Blog Commenting frenzy was done almost exclusively for SEO, not for traffic.

It can work for traffic, but not the way most people do it.

Most definitely, just keep the comments interesting, ie. not "great article, thanks"

Yes, find blogs with real traffic and comment on them.
The bar is usually a lot higher though to get your comment to stick with a URL in it. (don't try to get your url in your first comment on a blog)

I don't think you are likely to get a lot of traffic from blog commenting. You might get a little, but I think your efforts would be better spent else where if you are after traffic.

Why not... Blog commenting still one of the best method to get more free traffic.

As long as you provide enough value in your comment, Im sure someone will take notice and visit your website.

In my experience blog commenting still works when it comes to getting traffic. however if you're seeking a lot of traffic your time is better spent on SEO.

If you're looking for the traffic aspect of it, simply test it by watching your stats. If they're clicking through to your satisfaction, it works.

Blog commenting is still an effective way to increase your website's search engine ranking position but you should not solely rely on it. Use other types of backlinks for your website and diversify them as much as possible to make it look natural.

I do not know what type of marketing you r doing because you did not mention and I don't know what type of site platform you have chosen, but let me ask you this> How long does it take you to find blogs to comment on? Then...are they set for comments to be auto approved?> A wonderful place for people to spam the hell out of, making all of your time about WORTHLESS!
Or are you actually offering a comment about the topic and then waiting for an approval? In EITHER case I say "It's a waste of time"
I can build three to four new site pages in that time... creating three to four new site urls for SEO's to pick up the next crawl. If you research your keywords well enough and build those new pages around those keywords...you will do well.
Also if you use WordPress as your site platform you can add social plugins to it and get great benefits just from that!

I had 7 sign ups> .046 conversion. So I made 17.50 from the sign ups and spent 7.06. That is a profit of 10.44 so far today and it is all on autopilot. I average about $300 per month. With profits like that you do not need 100's of sites. Just 10 of those brings in 3K per month!
The key is to test. If its your product...Create a copy and test it.If your copy does not convert have one professionally done. I get them done for around 399.00 with graphics.
If you are selling a product with a price point of 37.00 or better your ROI is rather quick.Test only for a few days...you should know by then if your landing page is converting. If not...make changes.If you are affiliate marketing...iframe his landing page. (And if anyone here tells you different or say you may get into trouble with the site owner...I have this to say to them>>>GFY and stay broke then!)It's actually YOUR affiliate link you are iframing anyway.

I can tell you something honestly, I get almost half of my traffic from blog commenting. Perhaps, a few many have referred me in their posts. But then again, I am heavy on blog commenting.

I agree with you. Blog commenting is easy way to get traffic to your site.

Of course, blog commenting could still bring traffic to your websites or Blogs, but just a bit ,not much. In order to do SEO better, we should diversify diversify as much as other methods.

It does work but as mentioned above, you need to contribute to the topic of conversation with useful info. If people just post things like "Hey, great post, I've bookmarked this" and all that crap, then it's a waste of time.

When you find some which gives you some decent traffic, go back to those on a regular basis and then people will get to know you and will be more likely to click on your links. This can also be a way to get to know the site owner which can lead to guest posting or running ads on their site.

Do you really think blog commenting is going to give you any real traffic to your site. Anyone here that says it works and it's great are usually the ones who make no money online. How can blog commenting be worth the effort? There's no bloody way that you should be focusing your efforts on using these low quality ****ty techniques to get traffic to your site. Get your mindset right and stop listening to these small time marketers.

I do sometimes get conversions from people following comments.

What you MUST avoid is cheap Fiverr gigs for commenting, and leaving any automated or non-specific comments (e.g. "great post, here's my blog about weight loss").

I'll give you a tip that if you hack off people doing this, you'll be well on the way to losing your AdSense account (if you're dumb enough to put AdSense on a blog you're marketing with cheap blog comments).

Blog commenting in fact is a nice way to build traffic to your site, if you do it extensively and in the right manner with lot of focus. But what we see typically are not focused attempts, rather quick jobs where they plug in the primary keyword and write something random irrelevant to the website content. This is not blog commenting, but blog spamming.

I think loggers can leave trackbacks on your blog through blog comments when they link to your blog posts on their blogs. Trackbacks are a great way to help you build relationships with other bloggers as well as to drive new traffic to your blog from the links on those other blogs.

I never had much luck posting comments but I can say that the comments I get on my blogs are mostly spam related and many are from comment bots.

Well yeah but terrible waste of your time if you are commenting simply for traffic. There are much more productive ways.

I comment usually to help build/maintain relationships with prominent bloggers, something which pays dividends to me and a much better reason for blog commenting then simply trying to find traffic from them.

Yes it works.
I do very little of it but my top 4 traffic referrers are from blog comment posts I made ages ago. Google is my number 5 top referrer.
I really need to do more blog commenting judging by these results but it can be tedious and I have a million other things to do

Blog commenting still works but before you dive into it I'd ask yourself how committed are you to staying consistent with it?

Blog commenting, article writing, things of that nature is like a daily grind and you have to be consistent with it. If you're not consistent with it every single day for like at least 60-90 days then you're not going to see much results. Source: my personal experience.

I'd say you have to think about what's your personality. Are you the patient type? Or do you need more frequent like quick "feedback"?

Niche related blogs ---> Traffic + backlink.

Non-niche blogs ---> Backlink.

If you're commenting on popular (high traffic) niche related blogs you can drive a pretty decent amount of traffic by leaving GOOD comments. The same can be said for forum posting.

Yes, in my opinion blog commenting works as long as the blog is related to your site and you do not outwardly try to sell on the blog.

But I don't think that blog commenting alone is going to get you the results you are looking for, I would really consider using social media to increase your reach and keep the momentum of your business going on autopilot.

Of course it still works. But you need patience and lots of effort. It never gets old, though there's lots of new ways you can increase traffic than just by commenting on blogs. But to answer your question, yes, it still works. I hope that helped you in a way.

Absolutely it is working for SEO i have a website ranked No5 only from blog commenting but wait not any blog commenting only high pr blog comments pr5+

If you're blog commenting for any reason other than simply wanting to comment on the blog then you are wasting your time.

I am interested in the blog posts I comment on... any traffic/backlinks are a bonus.

Blog commenting still works as good as it did five years ago probably even better.

Tip: Just comment on high traffic, high page rank blogs and do not spam! Write a well thought out comment for maximum benefits.

I get a lot of my traffic from blog commenting and the other benefit is that I get to read a lot of informative blog posts along the way, thus improving my IM knowledge. I tend to stick to the big boys such as John Chow, Shoemoney, problogger etc

It still works! However try to aim for high PR sites which have commentluv enabled. Commentluv enables you to have a blog post link from your site under your comment. Another way to do effective blog commenting is by installing Firefox's brief. This addon enables you to know whether there is a new blog post on the sites you're subscribed to.

The most important thing that I'd like to add is that, you have to make sure that you provide high value comment. It's either you interact with the author of the blog or other people who made a comment.

I read a blog post about the new rules taking place online after the Penguin and the author said that today blog commenting is not advantageous for SEO. So, why should you waste your time with blogs if you won’t have the benefits you used to have in the past?

Forums are better for SEO and for getting traffic, unless you can easily find interesting blogs in your niche.
