First Page and my content sucks!

Yo I'm at number 10 for a 60,000 exact match per month term. I think I have like 15 back links on random blogs I commented. I varied my anchor text though with a lot of "click here"s and such. Maybe this is a Penguin secret. But anyways my content sucks and I'm sure nobody will stay on my page long. I should be panicking to get good content up, right?

Finally some success!

Hey bathunter, what you will want to remember is that Google is worth literally billions of dollars and they have an incredibly big budget for refining their search process. Short of checking each individual site to see if it's quality content, their automated process comes pretty close and is becoming increasingly difficult to fool.

You could continue to try and find short cuts to 'beat the system' but then Google will release another update soon enough and you will need to change your game again. My advice to you is, hire a content writer, don't fight the system work with it, you will get a lot more success.

    2 things here:

The above poster is right. Why waste time trying to fight Google? Despite all the claims otherwise here in the WF, Google has made it plainly clear what they want, and I've posted it time after time:

#1 - Google wants high quality, original content. As Alexa & MYOB both point out with article syndication, this doesn't mean some of it can't be duplicated. (There's not a single thing that's original on Google News for example.) What that means is that your content needs to be well-written, not spun, and worth reading. Add a video and a picture or two to keep people on the site.

#2 - Let's say you're trying to rank for pink zebras. All of your hyperlinks need to be for "pink zebras" or else you're actually ranking for a different keyword. If one hyperlink is for "pink zebra babies" and another is for "pink-striped zebras" and a third is for "click here," you've done nothing to help your site on "pink zebras." Don't bow down to the myth that alternating your hyperlink text helps...it just makes it more difficult.

I think Google updates will catch up to that pretty quickly and make a sudden and unfortunate change. The best way is to be consistant with Google's ranking is to build quality backlinks and content, buy hey ranking on the first page on Google is not a bad thing, so good for you.

The hard part is done, now get the content sorted. Google aside, you will want to get good content up so you can you can monetise that site. The best way of maximising that is having a quality site. If nobody stays on your website long, it could be difficult to make money from it.

Good for you! but... How long did you create your site? You might just be getting ready to "hit the Google dance floor". Have you been bouncing around or are you pretty settled into that number 10 spot?

I had the same thing happen... not very good content.. just filler... day 7 I was on page one number 9 pos. then did the dance for about 3 months and low and behold things worked out for me occupying pos. 2-6 fo my keyword.

Either way... you through the dart at the dart board... lets just hope it sticks
