How can I make money (what products)? + my reason for quitting IM

I'll try to keep it short. I started IM but quit. I never made a website or became an affiliate or anything. The simple reason I never tried was because of a lack of honest people. Like, i'm tired of hearing "Make $100 a day" when there are guys who do this and after years only make $5 a day off of 1 website... I'm all for making $100 per day, or more but if it's going to take me 10 years to build it up then is it even worth the time? I'd like to know how you can make money either by making your own website or affiliate marketing for sites like Amazon, IDC. I JUST WANT HONESTY. Like I said, i'm sick of hearing "$1000+ per day all the info is in here for $49", who here is actually PASSIVELY making that from the internet? I'm not saying it's impossible, but realistically your website would have to be in the top 1000 rank to make that sort of money and that just is too impossible, too many scams out there. What REALLY pushed me into quitting IM all together was this website I found of this honest person with proof of earnings. He wasn't selling a product, he wasn't making fake promises or money off of views, he just posted his earnings on a blog from 1 website that he made and after like 2 years he's made some $600 and is making $1 a day currently. After seeing that, I realized there is no real potential in IM.

But i'm back and want to attempt starting IM again but this time I want to have the correct information. My friend got me back into it, not sure if he's lying or telling the truth but he does IM and that's how he bought his new iPad and Macbook so to me, that's proof. He told me all about what he did and I knew it all because he was making money from ads. I'm wondering if it's actually doable to make $100, $50, or realistically just $10 per day from the internet and build up. I would like to start again. When I quit, I left off doing "The 30 day challenge" and quit right on day 1 because that website convinced me to stop. So I assume now depending on others' opinions i'll go back to finishing the Challenge... But then what next? I would like original, quality products that have info in them, that actually worked well for you. I kind of like Jamie Lewis, I wanted to sign up for his "IM with Jamie" a while ago but it seemed too risky to pay that much when i'm not earning, what if I never made any money from his method that month? Anything you recommend? Please be honest on the products as I want to make AT LEAST $10 a day from my first website, if that's not too big of a goal (is it?).

So i'm just gonna leave this thread, and wait for people to join in. Thanks and good luck : )

PS: Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move it instead of deleting so I can still get advice.

I'm not going to convince you to stay in IM; I'm going to tell you to quit. From reading your two paragraphs, there is nothing I can do or say that will make you want to stay in, so there's no point in trying to convince you otherwise.

I'm not going to give screen shots and income statements and tax records and all that. That's not my deal. I don't guarantee anyone anything. I work with people and try to guide them along and show them how it's done in the areas that I'm familiar with.

It looks to me, though, that you're confused about IM. Here's how I think of it:

Let's say you want to go to the University of Georgia (best school in the world) and get a college degree. You first have to register for classes and decide on what you want to be. You don't just go to the registrar and say "Hey! I want a degree! Put me in a class!" Why? They'd laugh you off the campus.

They make you decide on what you are going to study.

    IM is the same way.

Do you want to study SEO? PPC? List-building? Niche & Mini-Niche Marketing? Copywriting? Product Creation? WordPress Theme Creation? Article Writing? Fiverr Marketing? And the list goes on and on and on . . . .

As we've been talking about in another thread this morning, you have to decide what you'd like to get into before you can get anything out of it.

Which area of IM is right for you?

As long as you understand that IM is WORK you should be ok. If you want to make full time income on the internet you should plan on spending about 40 hours per week to do it (at least at first). In addition, unlike 'real jobs' you may put in 40 hours a week for a month or two and not make a dime. It can be discouraging at times.

If you come up with a good plan of action and stick to it then yes, you can make $5 per day, or $10 per day, or $10,000 per day. Again, just like a 'real job' most people will be on the lower end, a few hard workers who did the right things at the right times will make a lot more.

Personally, I make about $50-75 per day right now online. The vast majority of that is from writing for other people. I'm working to push that up to $100 per day in the next month or two and then hopefully a lot higher than that eventually.

    So, to sum it up....
Yes, It's possible to make as much money online as you could offline. No, it's not easy and the money doesn't just fall from the sky. Also, if it sounds too good to be true, 99.9% of the time it is.

I'd agree with JaRyCu. IM's not for you unless you can be more specific...

However, far more crucially than that, there are two things you need to address before you'll have any kind of success online.

    1) Your mindset - You've used phrases like 'i'm back and want to attempt starting IM again'. The part that alarms me in particular is 'want to attempt'. Listen: Do it, or don't do it. Those are the only options. As Yoda said 'There is no try'.

Also, your first paragraph is full of doubt and negativity. You seem to be saying that there's no potential in IM because you didn't find people who were making good money. That doesn't mean they don't exist. I'll recommend some people to learn from in a moment.

You haven't even tried any of the methods out there, so of course you quit or didn't feel IM had potential.

    2) Get Better Advice and Mentors! - Here are some people to learn from who make a good deal of money online (not some measly $5 per day from a niche site, I'm talking $50,000+ in sales in their first year).

Pat Flynn - Smart Passive Income - In particular check out his Niche Site Duel.

Lee McIntyre - Instant Internet Lifestyle

John Thornhill - Search for him on the Warrior Forum

As always, you can read and learn until you're blue in the face. Won't make you any money. Action is where it's at.

Thanks! I love when people agree with me.

(not some measly $5 per day from a niche site, I'm talking $50,000+ in sales in their first year).

This mentality is slighty dangerous. When I setup a new niche site, I've been taught by my mentor to aim for $1/day from it. He aims at that, but he averages $3-$5/day from his sites after a week or two, and he has hundreds of sites. This little niches really add up once you start building them.

This is where I started in IM. Be a little careful with the duel site. It was done pre-Panda and pre-Penguin, so not all of the techniques are safe now.

I'd also like to add Spencer Haws at Niche Pursuits to the list as well. He's an awesome read. I'm on his email list and Pat Flynn's too.

True, I guess I did jump the gun a little there. You can absolutely build niche sites and make a small income from them all which adds up to a great income.

My only concern with aiming for $10 per day or similar is that it sets one's sites very low. If your aim is to make a full-time income, then that's your aim, whichever method you choose. Have that as your first big goal, and just use $10 per day as the first milestone to get out of the way quickly so that you can progress further (regardless of the method you're using).

Either way, whatever you choose to do, DO SOMETHING (before saying there's no potential)!

My spelling is atrocious this morning. I'm drinking office coffee and it's just not as good as Dunkin Donuts. uggh.

The other good thing about this is that, after you have a few of them making money, you start rolling that money back into the business. THIS is when you start automating. 1 site = minimum of $30/month. 5 sites = minimum of $150 a month. It's more than likely 3x-5x that, though. With that amount of money, you can afford more things, like hiring someone and teaching them how to setup WordPress for you, how to do KW research, how you like to have your articles written, etc. By doing this, you can pay someone to setup sites while you setup more sites, making your potential income expand geometrically instead of linearly.

I have a concern about niches now: What if you run out of niches to make websites from? If too many people made niche sites wouldn't that make things more crowded? I think from reading this thread so far niche sites look like a good thing to start with so i'm choosing to get into niche site building. I lack creativity which was also a problem when I was doing the 30 Day Challenge, but i'll check every product out and try one out. I also have a limited budget, only like $600 to spend so i'm hesitant on buying too much.
Open up a dictionary my friend. Count the words. You'll finish counting them before you could possibly run out of niches. And you want to know something else that's cool? If you find a particularly profitable niche, you can make more than one site. There's no rule out there saying you can't rank 2, 3, 5, or 10 sites on the first page of Google. Just change the identifying information and no one else will know they're all yours.

As far as only having $600, you have WAY more than I started with. It took me 2 months to save up $20 from the job I was working when I got started. I went and started writing articles on vWorker to build up the cash. This month alone, I've made almost as much writing articles as I have from my full-time job. It takes me literally $10.87 to get a new site up and running, and 4-5 hours from start to finish.

          Thanks to everyone.
You're welcome. But remember, I told you to quit.

Yes, it is all about your plan of action. Find one thing that you want to do and then find someone who does that whom you could learn from.

For instance, do you want to start with a facebook page an facebook ads? Then find someone who does that successfully and learn from them. (although with all of the recent changes in fb land I would recommend starting with something else)

Once you think you have found the product you want to use, Google "product name" + review and see what others say about it. See if it is on IM report card too.

I would also come to this forum and asking if anyone else has heard of the product/product owner - (I would normally recommend that you start here after you find a product you are interested in, but since you say you have been burned by IM I wanted to give you a wide range of ways to research.

And once all of that is said and done, you must follow through with the strategy that you have put into place. One of the biggest mistakes people make is giving up after a week and changing their money making strategy or adding to it.

You want to keep things as simple as possible in the beginning. Find a plan, follow it, stick with it, and when you are able to make money easily with that plan, then you can consider adding another source of income to your IM business. (ex: using a Facebook timeline and later setting up an affiliate site).

    Hope this helps

From what Im reading from you, just seems like your overwhelming yourself. Dont worry about running out of niches or if your going to make money or not. Come up with a plan and understand you will be learning as you go. I cant say I made millions of dollars but I started about 6-7 months ago not knowing what I was doing and with my first site I sold on Flippa for well over $10,000 and it was just making money via adsense. Today I have one site alone that has this month made me over $1000 in adsense revenue. I can tell you from experience not everything I did worked, I just did it and learned from my mistakes and still learning. I know I can make a lot more, but again its a learning process.

You gave up before you even started.

I started IM about 3 years ago and never made any money until this year. I learned a lot because I made many mistakes but I kept going because I love IM. From just one website alone I'm making around $200 - $300 a day now.

You're not going to make lots of money overnight in this business so if you don't have the patience for it then pack it up and get a real job.

Seems as though you are a little discouraged by all the information out there in the IM industry. The thing is, if you are going to be an Internet Marketer then you have to get used to being marketed to on a daily basis. You don't want to read all those sales letters and then every one of them convinces you that you need this product and then you end up just purchasing a bunch of informational products but never actually taking action on any of them. You end up being pulled in all different directions but never actually take the first step.

Like jaRyCu said you need to focus on a sub niche (SEO, list-building, PPC, PPV, etc.) and then move up the ladder from there.

A common misconception is that Internet Marketing gives you all the freedom in the world but the reality is that you still have to work. If you want to be successful you need to put in the hours to get started and get to the point in your business where you can start to automate some things (support, traffic, etc.)

After you have reached that point only then will you begin to enjoy all the benefits of being an IMer. And let me tell you that it is absolutely worth it!

Don't get discouraged by everything you hear out there. If you want to succeed bad enough then you'll find a way.

Well, you're going to get two things.

    1. Honest people telling you the truth.
    2. Dishonest people telling you lies.

And since you yourself don't know the truth, you won't know which is which.

Which means you will just choose the things you like, and ignore the things you don't. You may as well skip the middle man and just make stuff up.

But hey! Maybe you're smarter than that. Do you know what internet marketing really is?

It's marketing. Which is just communicating a message to potential customers.

On the internet. Which is just a place you can communicate with people.

So forget about the internet part, because you're already on the internet communicating. You've got that part nailed. Not an issue. Concentrate on the marketing. You need to find potential customers and communicate your message.

But wait! What does the message say? And what are they customers of?

And now you know why internet marketing is not a business. It is something a business uses. What you are missing is the part where you have a business in the first place, so you're essentially going around asking the equivalent of "What should my business cards look like?" when you do not even need them in the first place.

If you are going to put ads on Facebook, you are going to need something to advertise.

If you are going to start a blog and put other people's ads on it, you are going to need something to write in that blog.

If you are going to build an email list, you are going to need something to email those people.

The real question is not "how do I communicate my message to potential customers," it is "why should people give me their money?" - as in, what is in it for them. What do you want from those people, and what are you going to do for it?
