Monetizing Free Blogs?

INTERNET MARKETING

I know . . . I ought to know the easy answer to this, but since I've come out of hospital, my memory's . . . oh, gone a bit, and I'm having to reteach myself things I already know.

So - a bit of help please.

Can you briefly summarize what you ARE alowwed to do to monetize a free blog?

I remember you can use AdSense on Blogger blogs, but not much else.

Oh yes. DON't CLICK ON MY SIG LINKS! All my sites have been hacked in my absence, and it'll take quite a while to get them all sorted out.

Hi Alan,

With blogger you can promote other things besides Adsense - you can promote pretty much any affiliate programs or CPA offers that you want.

WordPress.com blogs are a lot stricter.

  I'm surprised at your reply. I had a Blogger blog, which I added Adsense and Amazon ads. The site was promptly shut down without reason. There were no other reasons it would be blocked.
  
  That's why I asked the question: How can I monetize free blogs? I'd appreciate any further advice.

  As she said, your best bet is affiliate offers/products. Either intermingle them in your content, or have specific pages for the products. There's a difference between Adsense/Amazon ads and affiliate links. There's basically nothing they can do about those.

  This is terribly common, as can be seen from all the threads like this one. :p
  
  A careful read of this one thread is really all you need, to see why Blogger's so unsuitable: Squidoo/Blogger as primary website
  
  But if you want more, these posts/threads may also help ("Blogger", "HubPages" and "Squidoo" are all the same in this regard - they're all unsafe and owned by someone else who changes the rules frequently and interprets them idiosyncratically and inconsistently and is in control of "your" site, which you can never own!) ...

  The bottom line is that self-hosted Wordpress blogs are safe, secure and reliable. You can own them yourself. And you don't even have to pay for either the software or the hosting. Not much to think about, here, really?
  
  So, to answer your question really succinctly ...
  
  Bad places: Wordpress.com, Blogger, HubPages, Squidoo.
  
  Good places: Wordpress blogs on free hosting (000WebHost, Byethost and others - you can monetize without restrictions on these, and the host puts no advertising or announcements on your pages), and free sites on Weebly, Yola and Blinkweb.
