How do I get traffic my eBay store? - I Need Traffic that converts

Greetings everyone,
So yesterday, I was looking through my eBay store visitor and traffic stats for the first time and I realised, I am making a good conversion on the number of visitors I am getting. Therefore, I googled 'Website Traffic' and went on a mini traffic shopping spree to my store. Today, i am noticing I did ge a bump in traffic but no conversions.

I am selling high quality Italian leather items. They sell for $50+ on buy it now prices each but I am starting them at $0.99 no reserve just for marketing reasons to get the maximum exposure possible. Despite of that the traffic that I bought possibly in thousands haven't bidded on many items I assume.

The auctions I started on eBay, gets direct exposure from eBay search USA. Usually my items end with 100 - 250 views before closing and my auctions ( started at $0.99 ) soar up to $50.00 at times or even above that which is better than my buy it now price. I believe this happens because of the heat of the auction. I have also noticed another trend where, my auctions which I occassionaly start at my break-even prices not getting enough views but during the final minutes they end up getting bids and therefore I make some profit. I have made 66 sales so far in May and each sale yielded me round about $5 - $15 profit. Now, this is a normal state. I know I can scale this up ten times and ones it up, I can introduce 100s of other products. But the problem again is getting traffic from other sites which can possibly convert better.

I have also tried banner ads, I have paid some people to get banners posted on their websites. I went with a compaign where the person charges $400 an year and I have paid for a month or so. I have also tried posting on various other websites, the traffic is just not coming.

All you experienced marketers, do you have any experience dealing with eBay listings? It would really be a bonus if any one can reveal the perfect marketing strategy for eBay. I don't do it using facebook or twitter because it's as good as spamming and I don't have many friends those who use facebook and twitter.

I am willing to give out a commission or any-kind of other appreciation method in my horizon
Thanks,
#converts #ebay #store #traffic

I am not sure if anything works, but there must be a way to get traffic into eBay from outside. It's not rocket-science.. I am sure people can monetize big, if someone can come up with a traffic generation website geared towards eBay sellers. It could really help sellers and they'll be willing to pay for it. Only condition should somehow convert.. I know conversion depends on so many factors.. but still there must be an element of conversion.

Have in mind that 1 from 1000 people knows what is an ebay auction and people get confused. Do you have a buy it now price?

You could try Google Adwords and send pay per click traffic... though if you have a non-ebay website/web store you'd do better because Ebay's fees + paypal will eat up about 15% of your profit... (your own website/shopping cart you'd only have to pay Paypal/your CC proceesor ) but it could still work.. find a Coupon that offers free $100 in Google Adwords for creating a new account. That way you have at least $95 in free clicks to test whether your traffic converts...

The traffic seller can send you thousands of traffic but if those visitors are not interested on the items you're selling then you will get very little or no conversion at all. What you need is organic traffic that will attract visitors who are actually looking for the merchandise you're selling on eBay.

You can promote your store on and off Ebay. Leave your store link on relevant forums/sites. Do it your self or hire a freelancer to handle it. You can also pay for a space for your banner link, your money would be worth it once you see the traffic flow of your store increase

This is the email I have received from one of the site where I am thinking about posting a banner. Do you guys think it's worth the money? Here is the email. ( I cut some part )

I have attached some basic info about advertising on our forums. The forums are divided into three tiers by monthly pageviews. Tier 1 are the forums that get more than a million pageviews per month. Tier 2 get between 100,000 and one million, and Tier 3 get up to 100,000 pageviews.

On each site you'll get a large, 468x60 banner, a 160x90 banner, and your own commercial forum on which you can post as much as you like as often as you like. The forums work great for new products, discounts, close-outs and just reminding people of how extensive your inventory is.

The Tier 1 forums are just $250 per month, the Tier 2 forums are $150 and the Tier 3 forums are $100.

Have a look at the attachment and when you get a few minutes, give me a call and I can walk you through a couple of forums and show you exactly what you will be getting.

Over a decade selling on eBay full-time, so yes.

The perfect marketing strategy for eBay is to get off eBay and sell somewhere else.

Look, eBay's job is to send YOU traffic, not the other way around. That's what you pay them for. If you're not converting enough visits, there's either something wrong with your listings or just not very much demand for what you're selling.

The issue with the traffic you purchased is that it was probably untargeted traffic . So if you are selling shoes , you need to target lists that are geared to fashion buyers , i.e targetted traffic . More expensive of course but might convert better.

Another way is to market to your own list . You probably have a list of buyers from your previous ebay sales . Get them to opt in to your email list . Because they know you and have purchased from you previously , they are more likely to buy.

Trying to buy traffic is often a wasteful exercise

I definitely agree with what your saying here. eBay is a world renowned online auction website where people surf to products they need. It is the traffic that they deliver to your products and help you convert them. But by delivering all these relevant traffic they take a portion of your profit from the final asking fee and the paypal fees. This is one of main reasons that a lot of power sellers left ebay and went somewhere else or even created their own online store and sold their items there.

    eBayer,

I'm confused as to why you are considering advertising with the above company. Maybe I've got it wrong, but from what you have said you are selling high quality italian leather goods, why would you advertise this store on a motorcycles website? You are not going to convert this traffic very well.

How long have you been on ebay? What's your seller status? It may be that your seller score (can't remember what it's called sorry) is low currently and you just need to keep plugging away getting positive feedback etc. In time you will see an improvement in your visitors numbers.

The traffic is already there in ebay everyday, it's just the product you have and ebays seller score which will determine how much of it you see.

I would continue on the path your on and in the long term if you have products that people desire you will naturally get more visitors. However, you could get out there and forum post and blog comment (in the relevant forums of course) and get some traffic through your sig links. I would not use google adwords until you are making significant profit as it is a tricky process to master and may well eat up your existing profit margins.

    Good luck mate

Thanks for your advices, I agree with most of them. I am currently a top-rated seller on eBay, I get decent traffic but I am not happy with what I get!

I believe, when someone needs something they go to eBay and get what they need, but with marketing we can create a desire and then convert it into sale even if they didn't want to buy that item!

I am not advertising on that motorcycle website, it's a little expensive for me at this stage.

    I agree with fLufF.

The reason people sell on eBay is because they provide the traffic not the other way round.

So as the traffic is already on eBay the question is can you get more traffic than you are getting already?

Yes you can by a few changes i.e. making the title of your listing eye catching depending on the photo etc.

Don't under estimate the power of keyword research on eBay, not only does it get your listing found for eBay users but also ranks very well on Google HINT HINT- Use Googles keyword tool when making your titles.

Most importantly being an IMer don't forget THE MONEY IS IN THE LIST. So make sure they get an incentive to optin for something useful and related after buying then as proven buyers you can promote again and again.

Just some of these changes can be powerful.

  • Don't try to pull traffic into Ebay. Leverage Ebay's traffic to make initial sales and then pull that traffic into your own sales funnel outside of Ebay. Also, make sure you are upselling your products at the point of purchase and after the sale. Just be sure to stay with in Ebay's rules.

eBay is a massive traffic generator. That's why you pay for every item you sell.

It is the second largest online market place after Amazon.

People go to eBay with credit card in their hands ready to buy.

You just have to find out what the hot products are, source them and sell it on eBay.

If you product is in demand and your price is competitive, you don't have to worry about traffic.
