Fixing a high traffic site built without proper keywords

I run a group blog called Storytellersunplugged written by thirty published novelists and we're getting about 5K visitors a month. We just kind of fell into doing it and never tried to rank for any specific keywords so our organic traffic is all over the map.

Now that I'm thinking about trying to monetize the site, I'm wondering if there is any way of mass correcting the lack of specific keywords on the site's 1200+ pages so they target a handful of specific ones.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joe

That question is so generic, I don't think anybody can help you without the url. Having said that, decide what keywords you want to target and start writing content on those keywords.

Thanks TomG - didn't mean to be unclear or generic.

The site involves fiction writing - and I'm too new to post the URL, but it can be found at storytellersunplugged dot com. I know what keywords I want to rank it for, but I don't know if that means rewriting the thousands of essays on the blog already for specific keywords or if I can target specific pages with some kind of plugin that will help solve that without a massive rewrite.

    Hi Joe...

Does your site use a template?...

    For example...

Each time a new article is created.. it automatically is published onto a template..

Like a blog would be, or an article directory?....

    Peace

    Hi Jay

Yes, since it is a Wordpress blog, all of the pages are built around the same page template that is part of my Wordpress theme.

Yesterday I posted a link for a great (and free) wordpress theme that might work for your purpose that has built in SEO.

    Hybrid Theme

If you have wordpress set up locally (like on Xampp) you can test drive it before uploading to your hosting service. This is a real time saver for testing themes without having to view them live or worry about breaking your blog.

In this theme, you would just open the post for editing like normal but under the post is a separate form for the hybrid settings. Here you can insert a new title, description, KEYWORDS, and a thumbnail image (if desired) that overrides your original post title, keywords, etc. for optimum SEO. You'd have to add the keywords to all the posts but you wouldn't have to re-write any of the content and that should be a real time saver.

I'm not affiliated with the developer in any way. I just like this theme and it's FREE!
