What am I doing wrong cannot get traffic

I have taken a lot of advice from here implementing a blog for my site and adding SEO, researching keywords, adsense etc.

Real quick I know what I am doing for keywords is working I am using most searchable ones by first typing in google to see what auto fills and doing the same in youtube etc.

Im using my blog, savingtherepublic.com/blog, as a vehicle to get traffic to my main website. I was using ALl in One SEO and have just started using SEO by Yoast. That said my content is similar to other sites in the political realm; from the large sites like Breitbart & Blaze to smaller yet huge traffic recipients WeaselZippers, RightScoop, GatewayPundit. I have seen some of my posts rank higher than these more heavily trafficked sites. Three "smaller" sites I watch get 30000-50000++ visits a day (there is a Sitemeter button that will take you to all their stats)

We all post news articles and videos of whats going on BUT my site has added content from my main site so depending on who visits I have more to offer. Again blog content is a lot alike so you can't say "well its your content" we all do a post on an Obama ad for example I may rank higher on Google than them but cant get the massive traffic they enjoy!?

My traffic comes in spurts, what I may get in a day they get in 1/2hr or an hour!! Let me be clear I contacted two of sites asking how they do it, one went as far as to say "I don't know a thing about SEO, I get very little traffic from google". Yet they get 1.5million visits a month!

Again Ive seen where my posts rank via my stats on google and they are always the first page or 2 back many instances top 5 results! I can also say with confidence many times when many of the political websites are covering the same topic my site is ranking higher on a given post b/c of the SEO I am plugging into the post.

BUT 500-1000 visits in a day is brutal when I am doing what they are doing and they are getting 10's of thousands of visits. They don't advertise and trolling all the poli sites I can say with confidence they aren't getting a backlinks from big sites. They have had shout outs from time to time from high profile personalities but thats maybe once a month or two if that.

Pls keep in mind these are sites who aren't using SEO and keywords etc as many on here advise. Many times I will "view source" on a post to get ideas for keywords and there is NO meta keyword data for their post let alone their homepage!!!!

I am pretty burned out from comment posting (was doing close to 20 a day at one point) and tried posting to article sites which did absolutely nothing. It was quite time consuming and by the time my articles got approved the content was "old" and buried 3+ pages back!

What am I missing here? Clearly I am doing something wrong and its all taking its toll on me. I really need help spelled out in simple manner I am beyond green for all of this.

How old are you site? Normally it's just a matter of age really.
500-1000 visitors per day and your complaining? Hope your site is not new.

You can't compare your site traffic to others. Do not expect to get the same amount of traffic, just because your articles is of same quality. It's a matter of authority - the other websites are probably older, have more pages indexed, more backlinks, higher PR (both frontpage and internal pages) and Google problably love them after years of great valuable content.

I dont think its the problem of age of the domain, the topics are short lived, that might be the reason

Exactly. That's why I stay away from politics. Content becomes worthless within weeks, unlike most other topics.

OP, what you should do is post on forums. Pretty much every thread on any political forum starts out with a link to an article. Find a current event, write a topic, and post it on every political forum that you can, and you have to do this all fast. If it's a good topic those threads can get long, which means a ton of traffic for you plus a good targeted backlink with a ton of surrounding content.

It usually takes some time before you can get 10's of thousands of posts per day, just be patient and keep updating your blog with new content and you should be fine.

Heres the problem many forums are heavily moderated now. Many times Ill see a an article or something try to post my two cents then bam "You comment will be posted after it has been reviewed". My comments are ALWAYS G rated too so its not like I said something to trigger moderation.

Are you new to these forums you are posting on? Some forums like to moderate the first 5-10 posts of new members to make sure they are not spam. Most likely it has nothing to do with what you are posting.

Blog commenting is the same way. Alot of webmasters will set it so your first few comments always moderated but will automatically post after a certain number.

A few yes others no. I use Disqus login that works over a number of sites and its hit or miss when I post something. I just did a test post on a google forum and got a msg that it has to be approved so I dunno

This is quite normal for many sites. Auto-approve sites are open to lots of spam unless they are moderated quite regularly, so that's why most opt to moderate all comments/post that come in.

Go back in a week or so and check the sites that you left comments on. If they were informative and pertained to the post in question, i'm sure they will be approved.

              Take care,

Do you have a social presence? Have you got a twitter feed and a facebook fan page? Set up a Pinterest page too. There are loads of plugins which will allow you to share that content automatically, so it is no more work for you. But Google wants to see social proof that your site is good. That is the second part of the SEO. The viral effect of social media means that you will pick up way more traffic too. This is probably what they are doing.

Chris Farrell does no SEO at all. It is all social media, and yet he ranks very high for LOADS of stuff.

Welcome to the world of politics. Here SEO isn't the factor. Many Groups push political agenda's, from extreme capitalist, Liberals, socialist, Politicians, lobbyist, etc. They often work out deals, Paying the Author's/Site Owners as well as lending trusted persona's to give credibility thus building traffic and reaching a larger audience. This is how the Political side of the Internet is ran.

But they're comparatively long-established and well known, perhaps? Don't imagine that their 10's of thousands of visits are necessarily from search engines. Probably they're mostly just "returning visitors who like the sites", aren't they? I have a little list of blogs I visit a few times a week because of the quality/interest of their content ... many people do.

I recently started a comedy website in my own language and I'm also struggling to get some traffic to it. But since I started I have continually updated the website at least twice per day with new jokes and pictures.

I'm doing some "Penguin Safe" SEO, building a few backlinks daily with various anchor texts, not all necessarily topic related.

In 2 weeks+ I am ranking on page 1 fpr my main keyword and climbing on 2 other traffic heavy ones. Today I'm not even getting 100 visitors per day but I can see that they are coming in and my rankings are going up. I have no monetization yet what so ever and I won't add it untill I rank top 3 for atleast 1 month with 1 keyword.

Hmm... how about a little flame war? Believe it or not, those things can and will bring traffic to your site if you can stand the heat.

Get a signature file ready and try these newsgroups on for size:

    soc.politics
    alt.politics.elections
    alt.politics.org.misc
    alt.politics.usa.congress
    alt.politics.usa.misc
    alt.politics.usa.newt-gingrich
    alt.politics.usa.republican
    alt.politics.democrats.d

    Or

(You can find more relevant groups by checking post headers.)

I havent seen these I have focused more on well known sites like Breitbart etc. Do these get a lot of traffic? As for wars I have been in plenty! It all started for me years ago on a mortgage site that had a political section... its where part of STR grew from actually. I can handle the heat but in a way Im passed that Ive learned you cannot waste time trying to convert people, but I do get what you are saying if I start something and ppl like what Im saying they are more than likely to go to my site.

Id love to find some heavily trafficked sites that I could post on but asI said many are HEAVILY moderated now.

        Hey there BMartin!

I can see you have some problems of driving traffic to your site!
And you have the basic FB Fanpage, Twitter, Youtube channel!

Do you also make sure to ping your site regularly? That you can do with the service! The Pingomatic Which is free by the way!

I STRONGLY recommend you use the XML Sitemap plugin!
And that you use some RSS feeds services that are around:
        Just mention a few:
        Icerocket
        Feedbase
        Feedage
        Feedburner.

You should also consider having it listed to a few directy listings!

I have a Checklist I normally use, its quite extensive but I'll give you some good ideas on where to begin building organic traffic! PM me you want me to
        send it to you!

A few tips to you site if you're not already doing it:
Onpage optimization! - You know how to do that?
        Inbound and external links?
        Backlinks and trackbacks?

Otherwise I know of a great tool that can help you! Just look in my signature!

        I hope it helps you

Yeah... they're newsgroups (discussion groups) more than websites and the traffic in some of them is beyond belief. If you access them through those Google links, you might see a message that says something like, "What you see may not be the most freshest content." Google simply can't keep up with the conversations.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother trying to convert people. I'd simply make sure the links in my signature/posts kowtowed to the flame of the day. The good news (for you) is that almost none of those groups are moderated. So flame away, my friend. Flame away.

NO Im done trying to convert ppl thats for sure. Im about empowering those who feel helpless at this point. Through my site they get informed on the news and if they have had enough my other content is there... content on what they can do!

How can I ID the more heavily viewed topics? IYO or anyone else can I just take posts from my blog and post them in these groups? Not all of them but selected ones?

If you access Usenet through a newsreader, you can get a post count of each newsgroup. At Google, you've got to jump through a few hoops to see the subscriber number:
            1. Use the old interface. (Google will ask what to use, choose Revert to old.)
            2. Access the group you're interested in.
            3. Click the first link under "Group categories" in the "Group Info" box.

            You'll see something like this:

            https://groups.google.com/groups/dir...%3D46463.46410

Personally, I find a newsgroup reader much easier to maneuver, but that's probably because I'm old school.

Well... normally that would be considered spamming. Confusion abounds, however, because I've seen plenty of people do what you're describing in those types of groups, so even though you might get some flack for it, submitting entire posts might be acceptable up to a point. Don't overdo it and you may survive. Just make sure your posts are controversial enough to boil some blood, else the majority of people will simply ignore it.

Here's a list of a bunch of political heads you can rile up:

            alt.politics newsgroups

Although those links don't point to the groups at Google, and they link to the groups through your preferred newsgroup reader instead, you can still access them at Google by copying and pasting the name of a group to the end of a typical Googlized-newsgroup URL, like this:

            https://groups.google.com/group/{REPLACE WITH FAVORITE NEWSGROUP}/topics?hl=en&noredirect=true

            A real working example:

            https://groups.google.com/group/alt....oredirect=true

In what way Facebook is not becoming what I thought it would be. I have already been banned for spam on it too. Apparently posting links of legit news is considered spam... Just keep adding content, content, and more CONTENT while promoting your site via social avenues (facebook, twitter, etc).

One thing I always tell my clients when they have trouble getting traffic or retaining traffic is that you have to create value. You have to give your users a reason to want to keep coming back for more. Have you done any viral linkbait type articles? Have you considered adding a forum? Maybe run a contest of some sort? Anything you can do to make users come back is a GOOD thing.

How does your site stand out against other sites in your niche? What makes your site unique? If it wasn't your site, would you want to visit it daily? If so, why? If not, why not?

You have to start small and build up slowly. And most importantly, you need to create value for your users. That's more important than any hokey traffic promotion.

My answer is yes I an upping new content everyday. My site serves in two areas 1) to inform about whats up, things not covered in MSM 2) my other content, my unique content is in place for those tired of status quo wanting to do something. One of the reasons I created the site was in response to ppl saying "what more can I do?" I offer solutions and frankly am calling visitors bluff as to what they are prepared to do. Just cant get the attention the site deserves and to those looking for solution.
