A tip for WSO sellers who offer discounted review copies...

Are you selling your WSO at a small discount so that you can get some reviews to your WSO?

You may have a $27 WSO and offer a review copy at $17

Are you doing this as a comparison tactic so that everyone buys your $17 copy and you couldn't care less whether they left a review or not?

Or are you really trying to get a review?

If you really want your buyers to leave a review, do not offer them a discounted copy. Instead offer a $10 rebate after they have left the review.

This way you will really get some reviews going. It is the same pricing structure with just the other way around.

Update: Ok, that's a bad idea! Against the WSO rules!

The only problem with that is one essence you are paying for a review (they are paying $27 and you are paying them $10).

A review copy, is much cleaner and avoids the issue of paying them for reviews. They purchased your product and leave an effective review totally unbiased.

Asking them to leave a review in return for $10 - perhaps unbalances the truthfulness of such reviews.

I prefer to over deliver and encourage them to leave review because they simply feel like shouting about my stuff.

I agree with Dee. It's better to not seem to be bribing people for reviews.

Discount it for the WSO but not for a review. What you can do is to make it a bit competative and say the best review will give you an XYZ bonus - maybe a "done for you" package.

There are many things you can do

I hate all that type of marketing! a WSO should be a discounted product in its self, so you should'nt be offering discounts on discounts!

If you want to stay honest and true, then the best method is give away 5 free copies to experienced warriors to review! that would provide more value to potential buyers! than tons of glowing reviews just because you gave out so many cheap copies to all and sundry who got in quick enough to get one.

I have to admit I only will buy a WSO if a respected warrior who I trust has left a review! apart from that I don't believe in any of the reviews anyway due to the amount of JV'ing going on nowadays!

Give only 5 review copies out to established honest warriors, and if your product is quality, they will write that in the review, and you cant get better advertising clout than that! Although its the lack of quality in a majority of WSO's that stops sellers doing this!!!

Yeah, I would trust reviews from people who were given free copies much more than those who actually had to pay to get the product and have a similar value expectation to you... NOT.

P.S. As someone who offers review copies, I don't lower my price for those who leave a review, I raise my price for those who choose not to leave a review... so no, I'm not discounting my discounts.

As for offering bonuses or rebates for reviews, bad idea. You are encouraging people to leave good reviews because they don't get the bonus or rebate until the review has been left. By offering the cheaper option on the front end they then have nothing to gain by leaving a good review and nothing to lose by leaving a negative review. All it encourages is the act of leaving the review... nothing else.

    That's against WSO rules: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...27-2012-a.html

    9. (added 29 June 2011) You may not offer any kind of "bribe" inside your product, or in other ways after the purchase, in exchange for leaving reviews in your WSO thread. For instance, you can't offer a bonus report that people only get if they leave a review. This makes all the reviews in your thread at least slightly suspect.
