In terms of SEO I always recommend .com above everything else. Personally I would never purchase a .me not only for seo reasons but also because no one will remember a .me or anything other then .com

The domain extension doesn't matter, its the content onsite that search engines will look at.

Google has announced openly (and in fact repeatedly) that .me domains, together with two other, originally geographically targeted domain extensions (.tv and .co), are now treated for SEO/ranking purposes in exactly the same way as any of the international top-level domain extensions (.com, .org, .net etc.).

(That may not be true of other search engines, of course).

Edited to add - you should really be asking here: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...cussion-forum/

I've read it (I think last year) on at least one Google site (maybe including the WebMaster Central Blog - can't quite remember, now?). I know I've posted a link to this in earlier threads on this subject, but can't immediately find it. If I can find a link, later, I'll come back and add it to my post.

(I started buying some, myself, only after reading that.)

Found it! Here's an excerpt from googlewebmastercentral blog.

"We also treat some vanity ccTLDs (such as .tv, .me, etc.) as gTLDs as we've found that users and webmasters frequently see these as being more generic than country-targeted (we don't have a complete list of such vanity ccTLDs that we treat as gTLDs as it may change over time)."

Well done, Nasif, and thanks very much for posting it so I didn't look again later.

Yes, that's one of the places I've seen it. There are other "official Google statements" about this, too. One of them actually refers to ".co" domains (originally for Colombia) and says something along the lines of "Just like .tv and .me domains, these are now ... etc. etc. etc.".

Please do. It's a ccTLD and I assumed it would be treated as such. How are your .me sites performing on google.com ? Btw it's great seeing you in a non article marketing thread

Google specifically says the exact opposite: that it won't be harder to rank than a .com/.net/org. Did you read the thread, at all, Andrew?

Ooh, really? It's the only-rarely-seen "Google and Matt Cutts are persistently lying to us for unspecified and unfathomable reasons" line, is it?

Fair enough. Well done - I can't disprove that. (It isn't always possible to disprove delusions.) Not quite so easy to imagine why this would be a subject about which they'd choose to lie, though, is it?!

Well, they didn't actually say that. In fact, far from it: they give plenty of advice about how you should do SEO. They said that you should buy no backlinks, and not try to manipulate their algorithms with your off-page SEO. A little different, that, isn't it? And now you mention it, many of us here have been saying something pretty similar to that for years, and we seem always to be the ones benefitting from all these algorithm changes; it's nice if Google has caught up with us now and is openly acknowledging that, anyway.
