Niche site #8 in google 3rd day - now disappeared?

Hi all. I'm a total newbie so be kind

I'm following Pat Flynn's "recipe" for a nice site:

My site AlmondPancake.com is soooo niche that it popped up #8 in google the day after it was indexed.

Now a week later, after some back linking articles, it's dropped completely. Given the google update recently, I wonder if I'm already being tagged for goofy SEO practices??

What do you think is up?

thank you!!!

Actually this is Google's honeymoon period. Google takes newly born sites for a jolly honeymoon ride with lots of love and the webmaster [like you] too loves Google for placing his/her blog on the first page of Google SERPS in just 24hrs of creation!!. The love between the webmaster[you] and Google goes on and on for 1,2 days or sometimes a week. Then Google will fall behind some-other new born beauty and drops this blog into its original position where it actually belongs to in Google SERPS.

New sites takes some time to rank good if any. Usually they will bounce for 1st-3rd page in serp quickly but it will not long last..

If you've done "goofy SEO practices" then I think the chances are you're being penalized for them.

If you haven't, then it's probably just a Google dance.

The words "after some backlinking articles" don't tell us which, though. If you're talking about mass automated submissions to article directories in an attempt to use them for their own backlinks, then it certainly may not be good news, judging by others in similar positions. The idea of trying to use articles "for SEO" doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about the outcome here, to be honest.

But I can be wrong, too, of course. Some patience will make the situation clearer, anyway. Good luck!

Aha - honeymoon dance it is! Nah Im not doing anything really goofy - just a dozen blogs and articles or so creates to back link to the site. All lovingly crafted by hand with some help from an article spinner.

Thank you!! Back to the slow SEO slog that I expected!

That doesn't sound too bad at all, certainly. I had visions of something much worse when you said you were worried about being penalized for something goofy. I think a little patience and some good content will fix this.

In general, what gives you linkjuice for off-page SEO are relevance and quality, by the way - not so much "total numbers of backlinks" or "page ranks".

What Alexa said was correct, like how did you index your site?
If you're using legitmately method like, ping a post or digg the post. You won't fall in such trap!

I have seen my sites go to #1 to not found. Just let google work, you'll come back eventually. Hopefully.

These fluctuations can occur for up to a month if not longer! Even with a lot of high relevance quality backlings this will still occur, so don't stop building backlinks because you don't see results!

Don't worry this should get better after the first month once your site settles into place. The good thing is if you spend your time right building backlinks for the site, chances are good that you will have a good ranking on Google with the site!

Anyways good luck with your site!

Site will bounce around a bit for awhile. Especially at the moment even on a keyword rich domiain. Just build the links slowly and vary the anchor text and the quantity especially with a new site.

      Well - she's a back!

Google "almond pancakes", click to second page. I'm now sitting pretty at #11.

      This is fun!

P.s. I actually am obsessed with almond pancakes. Figure I'd share my favorite recipe and eventually make some affiliate cash selling almond flour and almond meal.
