Adding a community forum to my business

Hi all,

I run an ecommerce site. It is still small but growing.

Do you guys think it would be better for me to create the forum as a part of my site or a standalone entity?

discountfurniture.com/forum vs furniturelovers.com

I don't run a furniture store but just writing an example. The integrated forum ties people closer to my business but also feels more corporate, whereas the standalone domain is more detached but can also be more lifestyle oriented (in name).

I would recommend setting the forum as a subdomain, I have found that works best for getting visitors to memorize the url.

definitely agree with tylerrr on this, i use forums as subdomains on my site, i have heard people say that subdomains dont get ranked, which is true, but the content does, and having regular content additions to your site that will definitely be unique, is only a good thing. if you have access to your own server via ftp, i suggest you try something like simple machines software for the construction of the forum. literally a few clicks to set up a database with your host and the installation is done. you can find a lot of decent free templates out there to customise the look and feel of it too.

Thanks! Do you guys think there's a difference in engagement when the forum is attached to a business website vs being completely independent?
