AFFILIATE SITES - do you use an email at your domain or gmail (or something else)?

I can see how "support@yourdomain.com" would always be a more authentic looking email address, but to be honest, it's annoying to set them up, and it's annoying to log in and check, and if you have multiple sites, log in, check, log out, reload, log into different account, repeat.

it's faster just to check a gmail address.

But are you hurting yourself my making yourself look less legit by having a gmail addy tied to a www.mydomain.com website instead of a "admin@mydomain.com" address?

Not sure why you are logging in and logging out to check email.

I have an email set up for all my domains (100+), all set up in Thunderbird so they are downloaded automatically and can be easily organised.

Thunderbird is the way to go! it can log in, and collect/download ALL of your email. has a tagging system similar to GMail. you can also set (individually) it to collect (while running of course) your email every xx minutes. supports POP3 and iMAP. really too many features to list.

I consider it a 'must have' tool if you have a lot of sites.

I just use an email alias for those emails that are just to be collected. Only have 3 emails that I actually reply from

omg i'm going to get that right now!

can you reply from each specific email address while logged in to the master?

is it easy to set up? i'm totally dumb when it comes to setting up email addresses. Can I use it with the email addresses I created at my hostgator sites? Where do I get the info like pop3 or whatever?

while ThunderBird has a lot of advanced features, it can be set up be without much difficulty. If you can create a database in CPanel you should be able to run ThunderBird.

for most people it is best to just stick with pop3. in CPanel you can get all of the info you need in the email section.

the only issue that I have found is that when you are setting up a new address? if you run through to fast you may miss the checkbox to have the new address have it's own folder (really a good idea) otherwise that address will dump into a shared folder.

99% of the time CPanel is set to create the mailserver as mail.domain.xxx again that info will be in the mail section. with some hosts your ID will be just the user name, while others want username@domain.xxx

once you login (successfully) the first time ThunderBird will never ask for the password again. the only other tweak you have, is to set the outgoing mailserver. oddly the program will default the outgoing mailserver to the FIRST address your setup. this may not be an issue for most, but I recommend that you go back into account settings highlight the address, edit account settings and set them to use the mailserver at their domain. some spam filters will dump your mails if they are from domain x, but mailed through domain y.

the help function is very good so you should be able to get through your first setup, after that you will be able to setup a new mailbox in no time.

ps- yes, you can email out from each and every address. if you read an email sent to a certain address? you automatically respond from that address. what is nice is that the address book is global and not on an address to address basis.

pps- once you get used to using this program...you can not imagine NOT having it! being able to collect, read, and respond to all of your email in one place is a major time saver.

        Hello:

What I do with my domain email addresses is set them up to automatically forward to my primary email address.

Right now, I use myname@mydomain and support@mydomain and forward them to my primary.

The only problem is, when I respond to emails that have been forwarded to my primary address, my primary is what shows to the people who receive that response. I don't know how to adjust that so it "looks" like it is coming from the StarrBizz address.

    Here's what I do...

I set up email forwarders at my domain, forward those addresses to my gmail account and use thunderbird to download via pop.

so info@mydomain forwards to me@gmail and thunderbird sucks it down from there.

The reason I do it this way is because IMHO, gmail has the best spam filters I've ever seen, so I let it do the heavy lifting in that area.

When you set up your accounts in t'bird it's almost invisible that gmail has been used.

Edit: KEY, thanks for the outgoing mail tip. taking care of that now...
