You might not want to follow everyone because...

People are not tweeting.

Find out who hasn't tweeted so long.

Twitoria - How Many Twitter Friends Are You Really Following? (Thanks to Jack Humphrey for sharing this link).

I just stopped following 10 or so people because they haven't touched their Twitter account for a few months.

Thankfully most of the people i followed always tweet that what they're tweeting is really irritating sometimes.

What would be the point? As long as Twitter isn't charging us for following or being followed, what's it costing you?

If you follow them and they follow you back, it's an even exchange. If you're following and they're not following you back, then that's costing you a slot. Otherwise, no big deal.

I went through some of mine, and about 1.5% haven't tweeted in over a month. Maybe they're on vacation, maybe they've been ill, maybe they just don't get on very often.

While it's certainly useful to know what percentage of your followers may not be very active, there isn't much harm in continuing to follow them. It doesn't cost anything, and, if they do get active on Twitter again, you've already got them following you and don't need to go through the effort of trying to win them back.

I mean, if someone hasn't visited your website in a month, you wouldn't ban their IP, would you?

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I agree, you want quality not qantity.... What is the best way to build more people and friends? I am currently adding about 100 per day? Is this good or not...
    Thanks,

Dan C Rinnert you make a good point. Just because someone hasn't tweeted for along period of time doesn't mean you need to remove them.

Takuya - Thanks for sharing the tool. Most of the people I follow are pretty active.

Interesting post, would definitely agree that its whether or not the information provided on the service that matters the most. I think with this particular tool its a one way form of communication that doesn't cost any money for either party, so its not going to effect the opinion of one or the other. just my two cents!
