I think aweber uses separate mail servers to deliver single optin and double optin emails...

I just noticed the originating server for many of the newsletters I get. Some have 'soi' and some have 'coi' in the server names. I guess soi stands for SingleOptIn. Not sure about coi.

Anyone knows about this?

If aweber does use separate server for verified optins then ISPs are going to trust those servers more and hence delivery would be better in my opinion. Because obviously bounces will be low for double optin.

    "Confirmed opt-in"?

That's the real name of what people in this forum sometimes call "double opt-in". It's not "double" opt-in. Nobody opts in twice. They opt in once, and either get added to a list automatically or have to confirm their email address first.

I don't quite agree with you - and the limited testing I've done didn't suggest that. To me, it isn't quite so "obvious" at all.

Confirmed Opt In!! Yaay! That's it.

So, can you think of a reason why aweber would use separate sets of servers for COI and SOI?

AWeber (and many other third-party autoresponder companies)
use separate SMTP servers for single and confirmed opt-in lists.

It's their way of more effectively managing and maintaining the
reputation and deliverability of their server blocks.

The fact is that single opt-in servers are associated with more
problems (more spam complaints, more bounces, etc.) so those
servers have poorer reputations and have LOWER deliverability
        than the confirmed opt-in servers.

In contrast, the confirmed opt-in servers have fewer spam
complaints and fewer bounces (because they have a lower
number of bad e-mail addresses) and therefore have a
better reputation and higher deliverability rates.
