Making temporary transition to a J.O.B....question for you...

Well, I kind of got wiped out with the Penguin update. Not entirely, but enough to make money a little too tight for comfort. So I figured, instead of scrounging for a quick "make money" fix and diverting my attention from building a real business, I'd go out and get a job to give me the financial security that I need to rebuild my business. This time with a more solid base and not just the fickle, topsy-turvy spoke of Google traffic. That's not a real business anyway.

SO, I've put out a couple of resumes and just had my first interview the other day(sales position, my background). They seemed to like me, but one of their questions was, it looks like you're doing ok self-employed, why do you want to work for a company?

I didn't want to make it sound like I was just going to be there for a little while, so I just fed them a line about, "looking for a new challenge...blah blah blah". Not, "well I really need a stable source of income while I get my business back to where it was...then I'm out".

Just wondering...how would you answer that question? Or, if you were a potential employer, what would you like to hear in terms of an answer to the same question?

Thanks,
Chad

I would probably answer it the same way as you did - but maybe add in that its very rewarding working for a large company

So you may have learnt a hard lesson not to really on one source of traffic especially if its dependant on a search engine.

Maybe next time start list building and driving traffic to a free offer. This way (if you look after your list) you are building your own personal asset to use again and again and you are not dependant on the search engines booting your site out

    Good luck!

You gave the right answer. Is it truthful? Well, yes

    ...and no

I took on my job knowing I'm only staying for a little
while to raise more capital...and the plan is working.

They don't *need* to know why you're really wanting
to work there...if you tell them the *truth* you won't
get that job because your short-term goals aren't in
    their long-term goals.

Just be curteous and give them a heads up before you
leave -- don't just walk out and burn bridges. Also, do
work hard on their behalf so when you leave it won't
sting so bad for them because -- by goodness -- we
had a great worker at the very least.

This is one of those things where you don't want to
not tell the entire truth...but it's a higher than likely
chance if you tell them WHY you want the job they'll
find someone who relies and/or will need the job long
    term.

      Hi Chad,

If I were you I would have done the same thing.

You need a job and you have applied no immoral means to get it. you have attended the interview, cleared it, impressed the interviewers and upon being asked why you needed the job...came up with an answer which is definitely not untrue. You are certainly looking for new challenges, challenges at your new workplace which of course lead to a bigger goal that your employer is not aware of.

Congratulations for the new job...now its time for some moon lighting buddy

      Cheers
