I've never Failed at Anything I Actually Try at
What I mean to say is, in the past few years that I've had my hand in IM, I have tried a few things, but then quit them semi-quickly, and they never went anywhere. But those that I stuck with became profitable.
Let me be even more candid, and open about my personal business:
Attempt 1: 'Get Paid To' sites. Started here about FOUR years ago, stopped after about two weeks, lost interest. Ironically received my first and only check from Cash Crate about 3 weeks ago for $30. The combined efforts of a few referrals from way back when.
Attempt 2: Adsense. Build a few sites, added posts, did some link-building. Quit entirely after a COUPLE MONTHS. My personal opinion was that the people I was sending clicks to must be making the real money since they could afford to pay me. That was about 2.5 years ago.
Attempt 3: Physical products through Amazon. I don't hate this idea at all, think it can be great, but for me, I didn't like the 6% I was getting. This is when I started thinking that there was a direct relation between the profitability of an idea, and the barrier of entry. The harder something is to do, the more money you can make from it.
Attempt 4: Dropshipping/Sourcing. Set up a relationship with a company in China, dropped 20k on products, built a site and have been selling them for about one year. This allowed me to quit my job and I make my living here. Now have two dropship sites in two different niches, both do very well.
Attempt 5: Lead gen. Actually started this 6 months before the dropshipping. Basically, you can call what I do CPA, but I work privately with a company instead of through a CPA network. I do well with this one as well.
Conclusion: My first three attempts were fruitless, but as I analyze it, I never gave them more than about a month's time or so. Had I done that with the dropshipping or Lead Gen I think it would have been the same story.
I think any of the methods above (maybe even GPT sites... sigh) could be profitable, but you can't bounce around from one thing to the next. You have to stick to it. There are times when I even question whether I should be doing Dropship and Lead Gen, as I spread myself a bit thin, and probably don't give either the time it deserves. So my advice, if you feel stuck, grab something and simply stick to it!
