How to Protect a Product Download Link?

Hey guys,

I know Clickbank auto-forwards buyers to your thank you page

ie. (example.com/thank-you)

but how do you protect that same link from being randomly found on the web? I recently noticed a few people downloaded my product without paying.

Is this the same thing as cloaking? I only have 1 link to protect and I'm not that technical so I'm looking for something easy to use and install (a plugin, script) My site is in WP

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

    Hello Tropic,

    There is a great wordpress plugin out there! It's called "Download Protect"
    You can get it here: WordPress › Download Protect « WordPress Plugins

      thanks I gave it a try, looks like that plugin is not compatible with WP 3.0.1 or higher and the developers site is offline -

    first you need to change the download page and use this on the head of
    your new download page:

    <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">

    this will de-index the download page from search engines,
    you can restrict access to the page by not allowing anyone else but redirected from
    clickbank after payment, can be accomplished with some php lines.

    You can do it in a few of different ways:

    The 'noindex' option given by an above poster isn't fool-proof as some search engines don't even pay attention to meta-tags any longer. It's best to use a system that can deliver the goods to your users instead of just giving out a download page.

    I've seen several people set up with WordPress who leave the

    Code:
    <link rel='prev' title='' href='' />
    <link rel='next' title='' href='' />
    in their header source code. Anybody looking could just look at the page source, find the next link, copy & paste and probably land on a product download page. This post shows how to remove them from the Wordpress header.

    As some have said, don't let search engines index that page.

    Don't let your sitemap show that page either.

    Don't leave the download link in your robots file, people can simply load it and look ak the disallowed URL's.

    The product I use is called best damn redirect and it does quite a bit more than cloacking the link - just Google it and you should find it

    Yes... Redirect on Steroids WSO (the latest version of Best Damn Redirect) would be the best option to cloak your links...

      Protecting the download link is of rather limited value, if you don't also try to protect the product, so that people can't readily upload it to torrent/file-sharing/black-hat sites.
