is 5% a good or bad conversion rate?

hey Warriors,

do you think that 5% conversion rate is a good conversion rate for a newbie like me in internet marketing?

what is your average conversion rate if you don't mind sharing it with warriors here?

    So far about .02% yes that's 2 tenths of 1 percent..... not so happy with my new site. I put in about 100 pages of hand done content over the last 3 weeks too

      100 pages, of fresh content in only 3 weeks? WOW thats a crap load of content for only 3 weeks.

      Is it for an, "Authority site?". I am currently working on one myself. But I cant seem to crank out nearly as much content!

        Yeah this is my first crack at an authority site. Each page doesn't have a lot of content but they range from 100-400 words.

        I'm using amazon as well as CJ. I worked quite a bit on it and its getting some traffic just due to long tail keywords, but they aren't converting which is weird because they sure are googling very specific terms

    Seems alright. Just depends on your niche and the type of traffic coming to it. How targeted is the traffic?

    I'm getting nearly 7% overall on our wso but one of our top affiliates is nearly converting at 14%.

    It all depends on your traffic sources as Allen said and also the amount of preselling that was done.

    5% out of pure cold traffic is very good, but for targetted and warmed up traffic it is pretty low.

    Share a little bit more about what's your offer and how's your traffic and we'll be able to tell you more.

    I think 5% is pretty good.

    However, it is crucial to capture the email address of the 95% who leave without buying and probably never to be seen a gain.

    You must build a list for long term success. Otherwise you are leaving too much money on the table.

    If what you're selling is $1,000, then I'd say 5% is a pretty good conversion rate

    If you're selling something for .50, then I'd say 5% is a pretty bad conversion rate.

    Instead of conversion rate, the metric you want to look at is Earnings Per Click or Earnings Per Visitor.

    It's how much you earn per visitor that lands on the page.

    So if you made $100 and 100 people landed on your page, you're making $1 EPC (earnings per click).

    $1 EPC is considered to be good.

    thank you guys. I am only selling gigs on fiverr. my earnings are only 4$ per gig. I don't expect to earn my living this way but it's good money compared to the time spent on each gig.

    In many respects, it is unknowable...without more information.

    5% for a cold mailing to a list for $49 product might be great.

    5% for a wso sales page, where visitors are coming from other affs lists would be pretty bad.

    5% for $500 product, regardless of traffic source might be very good.

    5% for your own product page, feeding traffic from your own previous buyers list, would be
    very disappointing.

    5% to Clickbank sales page, acting as an affiliate, sending blog traffic would be good.

    Lots of variables as you can see. Personally I've come to think Jason's perspective is the best:
    Forget 'conversion rate' and focus on 'dollars earned per promotion'. ..less direct costs.

    Conversion from what, to what?!

    It doesn't mean anything on its own.

    If it's the conversion rate from visitor to subscriber of a squeeze page receiving highly targeted traffic, then it's an absolutely dreadful conversion rate. If it's the conversion rate of hoplink clickers to processed sales, for a ClickBank affiliate, then it's an absolutely tremendous conversion rate.

    I don't mean it rudely, and doubtless you knew what you were referring to when you asked, but nobody else does, so how can they possibly know whether it's any good? :confused:

      It's all about the ROI and I don't just mean monetary investment but time aswell.

      I convert at around 20% but I use PPC to do it. It costs a lot but I get a 100% ROI and I dont have to write any articles and do any seo stuff.

    generally a 5% conversion rate on a sales page from cold traffic is very good

    generally a 5% conversion rate on a sales page when you send people to it from your list is pretty bad

    a 5% conversion rate on a squeeze page is absolutley terrible

    it really depends on what type of place your sending people to, and the type of traffic and also more importantly the price your charging

    a $297 product that converts at 5% is excellent

    where as a $5 product that converts at 5% is pretty bad

      Detailed; target niche guest blogging traffic to a money site (affiliate product without a list) who has a good written presell page

      5% conversion rate from guest blogging visitors to buy a product on my money site
      is this possible/ realistic with guest blogging traffic?
      Or does such traffic only convert when I will build a list?? (with a list it will be higher I know)
