Buying a site that makes money

Say I buy a site on ( or anywhere for that matter) how can I be sure the site makes what is advertised?

What can a buyer do to ensure they purchase a site that will continue to profit? Thoughts And suggestions appreciated greatly.

It really depends on the site. If earnings are through adsense then you can just get legitimate earning screenshots ( make sure their ad channel is only for the site you are purchasing ).

If most of the sales are from JV or email blasts, etc., I would be leary and just invest my money in building a new site.

I just spent $35,000 a few weeks ago on a site that was too good to be true ( and it was ).

Be careful, listen to a lot of people before diving into an existing opportunity.

You can't even rely on screenshots. Pretty much everything can be faked. Faked traffic, faked screenshots.

Study the backlinks, ask if they will let you do a team view and log in together and view the history. If website makes money off ad sales, ask to speak to a few of their customers. If profits are affilate based speak to the affiliate manager.

If you are diligent you should be able to avoid most scams. Don't let your greed for profits overlook warning signs of trouble.

Hey, that's a awesome idea! I am definitely going to do that if I ever buy a site.

The most important thing is probaby the seller's reputation. Have they made other sales? How is their feedback rating, how much information are they providing?

If the seller is relatively new and provides little or vague proofs of income I would stay clear.

The best way to ensure it by asking them to show to you using video. So you could see the stats right after they login.

To ensure the site will continue to profit:
    1. check the backlink
    2. check the traffic sources

I think in these days of Google changing every week, that you should probably also check out what traffic sources are being used to get that revenue.

Anything that relies heavily on pure SEO could be a victim of a SERPS adjustment - several folks reported that it could go either way (up or down) immediately after buying on Flippa.

If you have a mix of sources, including some direct and some PPC, maybe that would make life a little more stable in the event of another Google animal arriving (Google Aardvark, anyone?)

You know there is always a reason why someone is willing to sell their profitable website.
So make sure to ask why is it being sold since it is already generating some income?
Use your common sense to evaluate the answer they give you.

Hello! Every little thing can affect a site and all, but the most important tool to know wether a site is earning and does do what they say it would is the seller. If the seller did have great records, you can also rely on the services of the site. I hope that helped you in a way or so. Best of luck.
