Sit together with him at HIS computer.
Watch a video, any video from YouTube.
Then, point to your computer in the next room mentioning that YOUR computer is turned off thus, isn't utilizing any resources whatsoever when watching a You Tube video.

Under ordinary circumstances when anything is transmitted to and from the internet it first hits the memory buffers on the network card. The application itself (ie the browser) already has a location on the cpu where it can be accessed. When data is streamed then much of the info is buffered on the hard drive and fed into the memory (RAM) as needed.
In short I think you owe your boyfriend $50

Not true.

Everything is downloaded to something on your hard drive called a browser cache. I'm still trying to break into mine on this new machine, but trust me it's there.
