Question On Backlinks! Newbie Help

I'm a little confused with how to get backlinks- I know what they are, I know about article marketing, submitting to directories etc.

The thing is, I've submitted my website to multiple directories, social sites, ezines, and I have blogs but I only have 1 backlink.

My question is- on order to get the backlink to my site does somebody actually have to click on my link in these locations for it to link back to my site?

Also, I have used a tracking link in place of my actual link to my website so I can track where my clicks are coming from. Could that be an issue as well?

Thanks

No as stated above to the first question. As far as Q #2 goes if you use tracking code your backlink will have lower value. Instead you should track the referrers on your website so you can backlink everything to the same url

Ahh.. Awesome, thank you. Because I am getting worried that I have submitted so much stuff and I only have one backlink showing in Yahoo. I will change the tracking system that I am using because the last thing I wanna do is go out and get all these links just to have them de-valued. Stinks though because I don't want to edit my ezine articles, I don't want to have to wait for them to be reviewed and re-submitted.
