Ok so I'm in the process of making a site that streams TV shows and thinking about trying to make money with it.. my only problem is that I'm still not sure how to go about monetizing it. I think adsense is out of the question and well, the only thing that Amazon has is also season DVD's.. unfortunately which I'm streaming for free. and therefore would not probably work.

Anyone have a solid idea on how I could monetize a site like this?

a content locker would be the best, I would go with BHCL search it. it's really good and I think that is what you need. I did this a year ago with a cheap content locker and the offers sucked I was able to make 100$ / week but I would have made way more if I used the right software

Perhaps you could have a premium membership option that allows people to stream content in HD? Charge a monthly fee? Depends whether you actually host the content yourself or simply posts links from third parties I guess. I would guess the latter.

You could also go for the MegaVideo approach and only offer a certain amount of streaming per day (47 minutes in the case of MegaVideo). Although We all know where MegaVideo ended up from doing this...

A nice way of monetizeing is to sell Internet TV programs.
example: www.satellitedirect.com( not my site ) has a affiliate program.
This is related to your site and should get you some sales

Have you checked out the legalities of streaming someone else's copyrighted content, before you try monetizing?

There are plenty of ways. First of all, you should try to get some form of advertising in the player (or where the player is) itself. So for example, you could have a video ad, or even just an image ad display for 10-30 seconds and then replace it with the player, or actually get a player that lets you embed an ad directly in the player.

Secondly, bars at the bottom of the page could work, or a page that makes them view an add for a set period of seconds before they're taken to their video page would also work.

      This is the main concern.

Well I see a lot of these sites on the net, and one I frequently visit gets a domain name search of 1 million hits monthly, has existed for almost a decade, seems to be no problems with the site I'm looking to somewhat emulate. Yes I would be linking to content that is hosted externally.. wouldn't that consider the site to not be illegal, as I am merely linking to content rather than hosting it my self? I see an example though where some dude was arrested for streaming live sport events even though he was just linking to it..

Honestly I'm a bit confused. Anyone have a better grip of this than I do? Should I be worried or is this just something not to worry about?

The "monetized" option in the "view" list is just a filter and if selected would show you which videos you currently have monetized.
If you were invited into the IVP (individual video partnership) or monetization program, you would see a"monetize" button on the video (IVP) or videos (monetization program). Clicking the button would submit your video for revenue sharing whereby you fill out a form stating that you own all the rights or permission to use all the content in your video.
Videos that have been monetized have a blue text link that say monetized clicking it will show you claim and allow you to disable revenue sharing.
