I have an idea! Tell me what you think?

Hey Warriors,

Last night I have joined a webinar and the webinar was about writing content and selling it on the kindle marketplace. As many of y'all know I love games and I am certifed for computers from cisco. What do yall think of me creating an ebook on how to build a computer on a certain budget or how to fix your own computer without paying any other technican to fix it for you? Or what parts are what that makes up a computer? What do you guys say?

I like it. I've been getting the blue screen of death and can't bring myself to take it in for repairs. Nothing online helped. If I found something that would allow ME to fix my computer, I'd buy it. : )

      Sounds good.

Did you hear how Pat Flynn got started.

He built a site dedicated to how to pass a certain exam, then he sold an eBook and made hundreds of thousands.

Maybe you could build a blog for people to easily pass the Cisco exam and do the same.

Create the book, BUT probably not for the Kindle. You will probably make more money from selling the book on your own at a higher price if you're willing to put the marketing efforts in. Then if sales ever slow down and you don't want to put any more effort into the marketing, then put it on Kindle.

Unless these type of books sell well on Kindle for a higher price of course, ut don't seeing it selling on Kindle for say $30. You could probably make sales of it around that price on your own if you make it a really good book, maybe more.

P.S. As I haven't looked directly into this niche, this is all guess work. But an educated guess.

          I would definitely buy it.

I think you should sell it on Kindle for the purpose of building up your fanbase/customers. And then once you're hot, create a "special edition"...like a "remix."

I wouldn't buy a guide in Kindle format. I'd buy a pdf version.

I'm old school and still like the old fashioned book. I use my Kindle for murder mysteries, etc. but have paperbacks for Thesaurus, copywriting books, any books that I like to write on and read several times.

Videos of you actually doing something is best. If building a PC and you can actually do it step by step then that would be pretty cool.

In saying that though if you search youtube for build a pc, there is a ton of these already, this is what I used when I wanted to do my first build, I doubt I would ever pay for a ebook/kindle book when the info is already out there.

An ebook with pictures would be ideal for someone like me. Step by step directions are great, and the illustrations will give your readers something to compare their work to so that they can make sure they don't build something completely different. One time I tried to build a computer, and ended up with this by the end of the guide:

Worked out in the end I guess.

Hey, aren't you from Overclock.net? Your username looks familiar.

    Anyways, great idea.

And be sure to give out some sort of freebie so that potential clients know you really know what you're talking about. This could be a simple ebook with a guide or two in it. Or maybe a quick video lesson.

Then could upsell them on an entire video series on building a computer from scratch, how to upgrade certain parts, or even overclocking.

The possibilities are endless - you just gotta go out there and take action!

When you create it, you may want to consider branding it with a name and a logo, so that you can then create a series of them. People love to collect books by the same author. Just look how well the "X for dummies" books have done. In fact, wasn't the very first one called PC for Dummies? Now they have a book on just about everything!

    Good luck with your project.

        Hi,

I think it's a great idea as well. Keep in mind if you publish to kindle, however, video probably won't be do-able as people can't watch videos on their kindle devices, unless it's a kindle app (and maybe on kindle for PC???). Either way it's still a great idea!

        Good luck!

Not everyone on the Warrior Forum is looking to build a computer. You need to go to your market, wherever it is that they hang out, and figure out what they want. The WF is probably not your market.

Alright, thats an interesting idea. If you are wanting to create an ebook with pictures then it should cover step by step process from decision making to buying a computer. You can write helpful topics on choosing a perfect config. You can quote different types of PC config based on its use. Like; gaming computer, office computer and personal computer. Thats my thoughts.

Its definitely a good idea and I'll tell you why because I have ALWAYS built my own computers.

What I mean by that is ordering all the seperate components off newegg for cheap, then putting it all together myself. It definitely can be a tricky experience, I have never seen an ebook for something like this, and so I think its a great idea.

I think a GREAT place you could buy ads for something like this, is on a benchmark website. One thing I could tell you I ALWAYS did before buying the components, was comparing benchmarks between certain processors.

Here is another great tip man.

Music producers, target them. Right now if you go on say tranceaddict forums you'll see there is ALWAYS a person buying a better/faster computer to produce music on. Music production is even worse than gaming as far as buying new computers are concerned. If you saw my studio, and all the things I have wired to my pc, you would realize this is a great niche to advertise your book in.

For instance, this latest i5 processor I've only had a couple of years, and its already beaten up so badly from the bs I put it through. My harddrive is also raped to death by downloading new music samples all the time, and TONS of these guys get viruses, crashing pcs, overheating cpus, music production is BRUTAL for a computer. In music production you'd be lucky to get 2-3 years on one system before it starts breaking down like mine is doing right now actually.

I think this is such a good idea, I can help you market it if you want. I have a solid reputation on 3 different music forums, these guys ALWAYS are spending money, and this is ABSOLUTLEY something they would want to buy.

I guarantee it man, let me help you. I have a lot of sway on these forums so if I recommended it you would get a lot of traffic I guarantee it.

    Let me know bro!!

Your idea is sound very good, but computers become very quickly. Do you think that your methods will not become outdated soon and be still valid in couple of years?

Maybe certain aspects of fixing a computers software can become outdated, thats why I think he should focus mainly on building computers - or the hardware side of things.

As far as I know, there is nothing new I've needed to learn once I learned how to put my own computers together. Everything snaps together in the same place, you always load the operating system the same way, sure the operating systems might changed, but he can update the ebook if need be.

I think you should just focus on an ebook that teaches people how to put together powerful systems by buying all the components seperately for cheap. There are a lot of music producers and gamers who are forced to buy expensive high end computers, because they don't know how to put together their own.

Its really not that hard to do, so marketing an ebook to these niches teaching them how, would be a great idea.

Like I said I will gladly help you, just let me know.

How to get rid of the most nasty malware and getting your computer back up to speed again without having to format the hd and reinstall windows. It's nice to run a whole bunch of killers but often it needs more or there is still stuff left.

Lately I did this myself, pretty succesfull, until I run into some other virus or anything like that that ended up in quarantaine, and then I deleted the items from there and my computer was dead, didn't startup in any safe mode or dos prompt or whatever. Very annoying, so tips to prevent that or how to restore data after such thing happens would be very usefull too many, eventually I fixed it myself but pffff...

I suggest you "dumb it down." Your technical knowledge is probably really good.

I don't know much about computers and something simple, with screen shots and easy to understand language is something that I would not only buy but suggest to my friends too.
