Getting Camtasia 7 for 130.- or waiting for the 8.0 Update?

Hey Warriors and Camtasia users.

I think I'm finally jumping on Camtasia. Sick to fiddle with Camstudio.

I got a email with a offer to get the 7.0 for 130 bucks, what seams a great deal.

But I also got an email from Techsmith that there will be soon a 8.0 release, and that they will offer a early bird discount for this one.

So should I go for the 7.0 or wait for the 8.0?

Any idea if there will be significant new features in the 8.0?

G.

If that's not the case then I would wait for the update to come out. It's like getting an iphone 4s right now when you know 5 is coming out soon !

I don't know about you, but I love discounts. If the wait isn't going to kill you or your business, I would recommend waiting. It is too bad they don't seem to offer free or discounted upgrades. I can't seem to find any news on the new features, but they stated it will have "significant improvements".

Yes, it's killing me to wait and maybe lose the discount on the 7.0 version.

I thought that there are some BETA testers around for the 8.0 version as about a month ago we all got some emails to get Camtasia 8.0 for free, where it was in fact only a free Beta test for existing customers.

I understood from the offer I received yesterday that the UPDATE from 7 to 8.0 will be charged, no free meal here.

Them main feature I think is worth getting Camtasia is the Powerpoint to video option. Guess the 7.0 does cover that already very good.

7.x if you need it right away. This way you'd get to familiarize yourself better with the software.

If you do not need it right away, then waiting until 8 is out is ok.
The software pays for itself, quickly, if you know how to monetize the videos.

When is 8 coming out? If it's going to be soon, you could always get the 30-day free trial of Camtasia 7, then buy 8 when it's ready.

By the way, your sig link is broke.

    Hi Craig

Wow, only a 100 bucks for the 2.1 version, didn't know they still sell older versions for cheap.

My sig is working for me, leads to a Blog post here at WF. Anyhow, thanks for checking out.

Think I will hit the buy button for the 7.0 as the $130 price point seams a great offer, and it will do all what I need.

Even if that is off topic, that makes me curious.

That's really weird as it works for me.

It links to a blog post here at WF. The link should be

        Code:
        http://www.warriorforum.com/blogs/bwh1/16100-affiliate-contest-quickbooks-university.html
Doesn't that show up bottom left by hovering over the link?

Folks, this might be a scam offer, strange stuff. I was ready to get that offer bu then....

I checked Google but didn't found any other offer similar to this one here

    redhotmarketingtools.com/specialoffer/

This looks like an affiliate page, but do NOT buy anything there as I think that the guy cloned Techsmith's sales page and pasted his own Order button there to get people pay directly to him.

Don't think that we will ever deliver any Camtasia Software as the next page when you hit the buy button is a Paypal payment page with an email which looks like a private email.

You will not land at any page of Techsmith, so I'm seriously worried about this and would like to ask if you guy's think that this is a legit offer.

Please don't ban me to show this, it's not my page and I recommend to stay away from this.

    Am I wrong here?

Hello! I personally think I'd wait and I suggest you too (that's if you don't have any deadlines or etc.). I think the 8.0 version is quite promising and engaging. I also think there'll be cool features. I hope that helped you in a way or so. Best of luck!

I had an old copy of camtasia, but my hard drive went kaput and they want more money. Oh wow, it is a great product, but we need more service. Problem with window resizing. Hope they can fix it in their next version.

Try Ebay, you can find 7.0 for $99.00. Of course check their
rating. I've got a friend who bought in Feb. and loves
      his copy.

Wait for version 8 in my opinion. I have heard it will have some additional features and some bug fixes.
I am also waiting for it to come out although I have the version 7 too.

      UPDATE

I just followed Techsmith's site and a employee told officially that the new CS 8 will be released in 30 days.

So who buy's the 7.1 version will get a free upgrade for the 8.0.

Here the excerpt from yesterdays post
      Hello,
The next version of Camtasia Studio will be out within the next 30 days. So, you can purchase 7 today and begin your projects now - no need to wait.

Projects created with version 7 can be used with version 8.

So.. in all, it's a perfect time to begin your planning, writing scripts, and getting your main recordings done.

      I hope this helps!

Looking cool, problem now is that I spend a good junk of my money for WSO's as we get daily a "can't miss" software or course offered.

    Hey Marty

and they say that you get even SnagIt as a free bonus. That's close to a 400 bucks for $130.- ??????

Not saying that this isn't possible, but what made me scratch my head was the point when I landed at a Paypal payment page with the guy's email on it.

    No relation to Techsmith whatsoever.

About your indication, looks cool IMO and a serious competitior to CS. by the way, it's only 80 bucks right now, not 99 as in the review - even a sweeter offer.

Might going to check that one out as Corel is definitely not a fly by night operation and stand up to it's products of there would be a problem.

Camtasia has been charging the same upgrade price for as long as I can remember. Whether you have version 3 or 6 the upgrade price to 7 is the same. It probably won't change with 8 so you may want to wait. On the other hand if you are on a way old version and need the benefits of 7 now... Upgrade today.

$130 is less than the normal upgrade price so you may want to jump on that as a new user. 8 may not be that big a step up for you so you may not even need more than 7.

Man thats a good price . I was thinking it was a subscription . But its 299 for 130 I would hop on it . They should include updates . Right ? I had the free trial and I had a lot of fun with it . Now I know I can find it for cheaper if I search around .

$130 for Camtasia 7 is not legit. Maybe a weird academic pricing scam of some type. Techsmith and it's resellers (I'm a Camtasia reseller) do not offer discounts that steep.

FYI, you can go ahead and get Camtasia 7 now and the activation key will work in CS8 because it is within the window that Techsmith gives a free upgrade to for new customers.

This may actually be an advantage because you can run both versions on your computer...if you are looking for tutorials, training, etc. there are lots of those for CS7 but CS8 material may take awhile to get out.
