Who Converts Better Facebook or Pinterest? Latest Survey Says ...

One of the hottest debates going now is which hot social network site actually "converts" best.

Here's a current survey serious marketers should check out before investing time and dollars. Read Survey Here!

Even if you disagree with the survey results, it's still good to know how they came up with the conclusions. When you know better ... you can do better.

Question? Does the results you just read surprise you? How will they change your marketing plans, or will they?

      Hey

Thanks for this interesting read! A couple of minutes ago I was on a thread where Pinterest was being touted as a threat to facebook. There is no doubt that pinterest in an up coming social media behemoth that has already gained unignorable proportions, but in my personal opinion it has a lot of time (in internet years...) to evolve to be a real threat (if at all...). The data you shared in your post was of special interest to me as it provided me some cold hard numbers as against the speculations I have been relying on to form my opinion.

      Cheers

FB is on it's way out... even TWITTER will be outpacing it in the years to come. Twitter/Pinterest harness the power of mobile so much better than FB does.

FB right now is at the MySpace tipping point right now. It has started to slowly die a LONG painful death.

There's probably still an awful lot of mileage in Facebook yet because it has a lot of functionality that other sites don't however it's whatever suits. Facebook is more about interaction with your friends in the form of messaging whereas Pinterest is ALL about the images and the interaction between pinners in terms of comments is so much less.

Be interesting to see if those who bought into the Facebook IPO at $38/share or whatever it was will see their investment grow or decline.

Facebook will remain for a while yet, make no mistake. People are addicted to it (and that's good for both FB and FB marketers). But from what I've seen, Pinterest is the future for sure.

Of course don't think for a second Facebook is going to stand still. At this moment it's probably cooking up something to match the Pinterest movement.

"According to a March survey by Bizrate Insights, 32% of online buyers in North America have made a purchase as a result of seeing an image on a social image-sharing site, such as Pinterest. That includes 26% who were able to click through to the retailer from the image to make the purchase. Six percent had to look for the product on another site as clicking the image did not take them to a retailer."

"Pinterest is becoming an ever-more trusted network for female social network users looking for recommendations. According to February data from BlogHer, 81% of active female Pinterest users trusted the site for information and advice—even more so than Twitter and Facebook. Sites like Pinterest are also fostering a high degree of influence, which may affect product consideration and purchase decisions. The same BlogHer study indicated that 47% of female social network users in the US said a recommendation on Pinterest had influenced a purchase decision."

Good point, you have to take into consideration target audience in all marketing...With one of the things I've been up to lately, this has become even more of a consideration, since only people in the US/Canada/UK can be involved. Facebook is much more widespread at this point, but I'm sure Pinterest will catch up in terms of reach pretty soon.

    Article Headline:
Facebook Friends Share; Pinterest People Purchase

    What I See:

faceBook friends shared their pinterest pins and faceBook friends clicked over to see what all the pinning was about, then they purchased.

    My Conclusion:

Pinterest would be nowhere if it weren't for the social connections previously made on sites like fB and Twitter. Pinterest is co-dependent on those sites not the other way around.

Perhaps Pinterest People Purchase because there is nothing else to do on the Pinterest. Perhaps PInterest People Purchase because it's natural for women to make a "shopping list" before they shop.

It would be extremely easy for fB to develop a Pinterest-like set up. Perhaps they will.

Facebook has made some mistakes but it still has plenty of life in it. There are vast numbers of people using facebook who are the type that would not move to another network unless something drastic happened. People can't be bothered to move when their friends are already on facebook nor can they bothered to open up a new account somewhere else.

Pinterest is holding some interest for certain demographics but it is a long way from reaching the critical mass needed to challenge facebook at present.

Any time our US government has invested into it-I think it's ok.....for now. I never saw a USMC Myspace. Please correct me if I'm wrong since that was about the time I started "playing" on the internet heh. However, (on my page at least) every other post is military related. I would say the government and other big businesses are invested enough into FB that it is solid for a few more years!
Speaking as a consumer-I don't purchase things from fb. If I like your page-I may never visit it again. Even getting someone to sign up for a newsletter on fb isn't realistic in my experience.
However, on pinterst I actually click the picture for more info--if I really like it..I usually don't think twice about buying--simple from a photo on Pinterest!

Thanks for sharing the survey, it makes interesting reading.

I've not had a chance to test conversions on Pinterest yet, but will definitely do at some point!

Maybe it's got a higher chance of people buying because there is more social proof of something being popular, instead of just clearly buying from an advert on Facebook.

Hello! Yeah. Facebook is slowly dying. It has became less active compared to other social networks. Though, it's still usable to such a number of audience but not nearly enough to make out what they already and will lose. Great post. Thank you and more power.

If we talk about conversion, Pinterest (if you do it properly)because there are plenty of women, most of them are buyers, but you have to do target your audience properly or it will be a total failure.
