Spoon Fed or Self Fed?

Everyone will have unique opinions on this, but..

Are you the type of person that likes to try different things and experiment on your own?

OR

Are you the type of person that just likes to try things other people have told you to do?

Internet Marketing Related.

Personally I like to try things other arent doing, it enables you to sometimes gain the edge. Your thoughts?

Sometimes I like to do that, too, but only after arriving at a pretty confident judgment of who they are, what their experience is, and whether their information/advice is really likely to be reliable and helpful to me. So I'm predominantly self-fed, but also willing to be spoon-fed, only if I really trust the caterer.

I'd rather do things on my own, think outside the box. Sometimes I need a bit of help tho.

When it comes to money, my thoughts are pretty simple:

If others are doing it and making money, why re-invent the wheel myself?

      Excellent point, JaRyCu!

Also, what if you're able to take what another is doing
and spin it; thus, creating a viral frenzy that produces
      crazy mullah?

It's been said that there's nothing new under the sun.

That simply tells us that if we take a good idea or parts
of one, and make a better "mousetrap", we cut in half the
      idea, production, and bringing-it-to-market time
      considerably.

      Ask yourself...

Did Steven Jobs create the camera? Did he create
a sound/voice/microphone mechanism? Did he create
the battery? Did he create SMS messaging?

Of course not... However, he was able to take
components that other geniuses created and was able
to produce the greatest technological masterpiece
      the world has ever seen.

      Everyday, you have geniuses selling/sharing/giving/throwing
their goods away. I call them watermelons. Go watermelon
hunting so you can eat as much watermelon as possible...
Create your masterpiece, and don't forget to spit out the seeds.

      Thanks,
      Frank

Its a healthy mix for anyone building a long term business. The fundamentals haven't changed, and there is nothing to suggest that they will any time soon. With that in mind, we are all kind of spoon fed these fundamentals in one way or another. You see it every day in this section.

That being said, you need to be self fed (creating your own spin on things and your own strategy) to build a foundation and thrive in business.

They're not mutually exclusive (and shouldn't be) is what I'm trying to say.

I like both. I listen to clever people and notice their ideas I like and then try and experiment by them. If it works for me, I make it my own. If not, I try another one until I have some that work for me.

I have a mix of both in my internet marketing business. Continuous experimentation is absolutely necessary to be on top of the game but there is so much one can do with limited time and budget. That is where leveraging on ideas, experiments and conclusions of others can come in handy. Why reinvent the wheel?

      Cheers

I like to get a bit of information first then learn the rest my self. Especially with IM and the online world, the way you get started is by being spoon fed abit of information, various WSO's etc, but then the rest is really up to you - I just fiddled about with what I preferred doing and found what works for me

Well, I guess my IM life mirrors my offline life.

What I mean is like all of us, I started out spoon fed as I didn't know how to feed myself, but as soon as I learned how, I took off with it, added my particular tastes to the recipe and now feed myself.

However, I'm not so pompous to believe that I have every recipe needed for healthy living and from time to time love to have someone spoon feed me something new every once in awhile. We all need our tastebuds stimulated every now again, wouldn't you agree?

I like the idea of being spoon-fed in IM, but from personal experience, whenever I have been successful it has happened when I was just working on something that I enjoyed working on, and then just happened to make me a good amount of money.

Systems and course for the most part don't seem super helpful for me. I prefer to get a bunch of ideas and wait for something to rises to the surface.

Obviously everyone's different, but that's what it's like for me.

Life is short. No point of reinventing the wheel.
Take ideas others developed, make it better with own style.

The problem with being spoon fed is that it makes it easy - and if it's easy for you it's just as easy for every other knucklehead out there. If you want to make real money you have to bring something new to the table. Not necessarily a new business idea, but a new technique, a new marketing angle, a new gimmick.

My feeling is that if you are reading it off some bodies blog or 5 dollar ebook, it's probably already been beaten to death.

This is exactly what I am doing. It just took 3 months of reading the WF and it's various sub-forums (yes noobs, there is more than just this sub-forum on this site!!) to coalesce a master plan. I didn't even have to buy a WSO to get it done, but you can bet I'm gonna make a few out of it.
